Cheapest, Yet Speediest BL Combo for the E-Savage? -
11.03.2008, 02:24 AM
Yes, I know, I'm retarded.
Cheap + Speed =
Anyways, I was going around on youtube, and saw a E-Savage running on a Mamba Max + 5700.
Is it truly possible, and for it to be faster than the 700HO motors from KD?
I do have a 4600 + Mamba Max sitting in the drawer behind me....
And it probably not being to have enough power for a MT, what is the cheapest stuff?
I'm okay with weird china stuff, to some extent.

I'm not calling you a liar, but I gotta say the mm/5700 in an esavage sounds like running a mack truck with a ferrari motor.
If you want a good/cheap/fast set-up, I'd say do the following.
For the ESC, get in touch with Lutech and pick up his 6s or 10s. They seem to be doing well. (link) http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13659
For the motor, Id recommend the KB45 8xl. You may need to check your mounts, but if you can fit the 700HO, you can fit this (30mm mounting pattern)
For batteries, I recommend some zippy's
I'm not familiar with the e-savage, but if i rememer correctly, they have two battery compartments, one on each side. The zippy batteries run in a series for 6s should be good.
anyway, your lookin at under 200 for the ESC
120 in batteries and 55 for the motor.
about 375 is as cheap as you will get, and this system should be solid.

I used a "bottom" line.

+1, I don't think you'll find a better setup for the money.

rawfuls- you write very well for being retarded, and I commend you for taking on this challenging hobby. I agree with the esc and battery choice that was mentioned, but the added hassle of the kb's size makes it a poor choice for a cheap easy setup, and is actually too much motor for a light e-savage. A feigao or comparable asian xl motor will be plenty to shred your drivetrain, and will mount right up to your e-savvy, and doesn't need oddball 6mm pinions

also a fair choice. Tho, suicideneil had his 9xl burn out kinda quick on him. I think the term he used was "spinning toaster of death". I actually have a brand new one of these (HC 9xl) I have yet to find a project for.
I know others have used the kB45 with success in the e-revo, thats why I recommended it. Like I said, I'm not too familiar with the e-savage, so I'm unaware of their normal weight. I assumed about 12lbs . The 6mm bore pinions can be bought at kershawdesigns.com.
If you do go with the 9xl, I recommend getting the RCM heatsink. Not just for offsetting the heat, but also because it has a bar on the end that will help keep the endbell in place. I have heard reports of the endbell screwing off, so the RCM heatsink should help prevent this.

i'd stick with a feigao motor, the hc I linked to was just cheap, and although the hc is cheaper, the feigao is still cheap when you consider the $400+ plettenberg big maxximum. the kb will work and will have way more than enough power, it just requires a new motor mount and 5mm is the preferred pinion size

A stock e-savage weighs about 9 pounds rtr. Its very small and light. Mine was streached and widened and it came out with the lst shocks at 10pounds 3oz. A 8L and 9 L motors are very popular for the e-savage but the medusa 36x60 would be the best, The e-savage has a very weak drivetrain, so the kbxl motors would be a NO GO. I had a 10l and a 9l in my two. They did well but I belive the medusa motor would be a better choice. I had a 80amp and 120amp mgm escs in mine too. They work like a charm but expensive.
A medusa v2 2000 motor and a castle mm esc+ubec (or mmm and dont need ubec) and a few zippy lipos and you would be set. 40+mph and low heat. Need to get the kershawdesigns diff shim kits or it wont last past a few runs with brushless power.

I agree get the medusa. Besides you'll have a motor that will be able to do something other than just speed runs.

I was just double checking. I thought running a MM5700 combo in a ESavage was idiotic. But, it was done...
So I'm guessing LuTach's ESC's are solid, and will work eh?
I have the diff shim kit, just haven't got around to installing it just yet.
Hmm, so, how about the 9L from HobbyCity?

The 9L worked great for me . You will need a motor clamp from rc monsters or put a few screws in it to hold the end caps on/with a heat sink. Keep an eye on motor temps. If they get to hot, djust gearing or you may need a fan for the motor. I put a fan over my motor and then never got above 140. Even after 30mins of straight bashing

I would go with a Medusa, by the time you buy a clamp for a Feigao your close to the same price. The Medusa will run cooler without a heat sink than a feigao with one, with the same gearing, from my experience. The Medusa isn't the cheapest, but by far the best bang for your buck! The feigao might last and maybe it won't, for the extra few bucks get the Medusa!!!

I'd jump on that deal, even if you don't like the 9l, you;ve got a great esc for any motor
