Question 6s gearing for e-revo - 12.21.2008, 10:42 AM

hi guys,

just curious what people are running with 6s lipos, and a MMM and Neu 1515/1y (or the MMM combo).

while im waiting for my MMM combo, i bought a 24t pinion and a 65t spur. im now wondering if i should buy a 20t or a 22t pinion to start off with, as 24t seems pretty high and more of a 4s gearing.
thanks for your replies guys

I want to choose gearing that will keep everything cool.

thanks alot

http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html

Depending on all your other factors, tires etc, i would gear for 45 or so :)

i need to gear for at least 50. with the gearing ive got at the moment, i think im aimed for 60, but realistically i will probably only get 55.
im thinking i should buy a 22T pinion, and see how that works

when you look at it can your lipos handle the amp draw of gearing that high?

well the amp draw is 120A MAX, probably about 20A continuous. ive got a pair of NeuEnergy 3s1p 5000mAh batts at 30c constant and 60c burst so they should be fine

then gear for the speed you want then... if it gets a little toasty just drop 2 or 3 teeth on the pinion

I'd agree with that. Given the lipos are top-end they doubtful will get hot, so keep an eye on the esc, motor and motor wire temps to gauge current draw. Gearing for 50mph and working up or down sounds like the best plan, though I'd be amazed if your truck will stay on all fours with that kinda speed...

lol, i might buy some big joe tires to try and help.

i hope my lipos are ok, because as i was soldering deans to one of them, i shorted it twice lol. but i think its ok, each cell is still about 3.7v resting voltage

Wont help, trust me, lol. To keep the front end down you need voodo magic, a brick, and a really aerodynamic shell. Taping the tyres is also important to prevent excessive ballooning and ripping.

You'll never get a job as an electrician, or surgeon...
