losi 8ight-T Conversion Setup? - 12.27.2007, 06:15 AM

Hi all,
Thinking of converting my Losi 8ight-T truggy into BL. So far I have an 8xl with 4s lipo and MM sc that I can use. What gear ratio or pinion size should I use?

If someone could post there setup or picture of there conversion...that would be really helpful. Thx

I'd recommend a steel 13T pinion, a Kyosho 46T plastic spur, and Losi8 Motor mount from Mike.

I'd also recomment using a plastic case to mount your lipo's in and attach it to the chassis with velcro and velcro straps.

I don't like to permanently mount batt cases to my cars as I like to use A123's as well and they don't fit in regular cases.

Here's Aangel's 8T. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6832
There should be some others around here somewhere.

I'd just use the stock spur with the hardened pinions from rc monster. Depending on how many teeth the stock spur has, a 13 or 14t pinion should be ok.
If your racing, mid 30's is a good place to start off at I think (depending on your track).
This is good for working out gearing http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/_top_speed.html

I would also try the 14t.

I am in the middle of this conversion right now also. I bought a 14 and 16 tooth pinion as well as a 46 tooth spur. I'm running the same set-up except 9XL. I gotta run 15 minute mains so I am trying to keep the heat down any way I can while keeping costs down with a cheaper set-up. Are you using the RCM mount or another?

Is the Kyosho spur a direct fit into the losi diff? I also notice that the RCM's motor mount has the motor behind the steering servo. Is that better for weight disturbution? There seems to be so much room on the other side...

Do you guys run mechancial brake or use the motor.

-The Kyosho spur may fit fine, but often times needs to be barely sanded on the outside edge of the case.

-That helps with weight distribution with the Lipo on the other side, you will have to to a custom brake servo mount if you want to run it and Y cable for the reciever.

-My truck is not off the ground yet, but I didn't go the mechanical brakes route, I may switch over in the future if I feel I need it for racing. Yet I drive the truck more like a 1/10 scale ride so I am not needing brake bias as make as other drivers who drift through the turns and when I do go sideways to turn, it is usually from momentum on the build up to a turn so the bias of front and rear is not needed to help the rear move around back in a turn.
