How do I attach fans to cool my motor?

Will THIS fit a 8xl with a heat sink can?

Use your imagination, and no.

Best method would be with an L shaped bracket- mount it at the front of the motor between the mount and front endbell, so that the long part of the L reaches back over the can, then you make a hole for the fan to blow air through, and attach it using some short M3 screws in the 4 corners of the fans. Prototype with cardboard from a cereal box and measure/mark the screw hole and mounting points carefully.

That will fit but it wont work very well. Look at my truck and that didnt work very well either. Its basically the same heatsink with an 80mm computer fan. What I have found is best is the novak hv heatsink. It really helps to cool the motor down. Put a couple of 40mm fans glued to the heatsink and I would run in 110 degree weather without it getting over 170 in my 7XL.

Will not work- he has a FINNED motor, not a smooth can. You cant stretch the little clip-on heatinks around a finned can, and even if you could, there would be minimal contact between the two, meaning it would be worse than useless pretty much.

Ok then, Im working on a mount for the fans.

Im using a Rx pack. If Im running two fans, how do i connect them and the Rx pack to the batt slot on the reciever? Can I solder the fan leads into one and connect it to a y harness with the battery.

Also, besides the Novak fans, what other fans do you recommend?

Use a Y-splitter to connect the batt and fans to the batt slot, and solder the fan leads together like so:

Some say the Integy fans are good, but I wouldnt be too concerned myself- any 30-40mm pc cooling type fan will work so long as its designed for ~6v operation.

I found some 12V fans on ebay that were 40mm for pretty cheap and work well, but at 6V they will only turn half as fast. They have other 5 or 6V fans that will work. Just do a search there and you will get lots of choices. If you look at the pic, thats an 80mm led fan on an integy heatsink. Ok 80mm is toooo big though and when I flip the truck it breaks off. Not good.

there are basically two ways for the fans(

you have a 12v fan and you connect it directly to the power-cables of your esc. to stay flexible, I've always used small plugs. just solder it to the power-cable. some people would say now "too high voltage on 6s", I say no, it works just fine. it just turns a bit faster. this works great when you want to attach a fan on your esc as extensive wiring is not needed. like that I keep my cheapo-chinese-esc cool, which gave me no headache at all so far (but the "brand-Type"-esc burned...).

you have a 5v fan: plug it into your receiver. for that you can take an old sevo-calbe, you only need to take off one cable (the yello one).

these fans are quite solid, their blades are small, good air circulation, they're plugged to the receiver. the ones with relatively long blades don't work for that use. the two fans shown above are old and still work (???). Always treat your fans well...
for my new novak heatsink I use a 5cm 12v fan, plugged to the powercable of the esc. works great.
you get them eg at egay, very price-worthy.
