lipo cycling question - 02.14.2009, 06:34 PM

hey guys ...using the Hyperion 610 and Neu 4900 5s,i have'nt been able to run my batteries for awhile due to a healing broken ankle so i want to cycle my lipo's while there in "storage"...my question is ...about once a month can i just put them on the "store" mode on my charger or should i actually "cycle" (charge/discharge)them thru and then put them in "store" mode till i plan on actually running them ??....Thanks so much for the help ,appreciate it

I would just check them in the balancer mode, if the cell voltages look low you can charge them again in store mode. No need to cycle them, I have never done this with a lipo. The discharge very slowly, but it is good to check them every now and them to make sure they are still in balance.

3.8v per cell sounds good to me. Just check them every other week or so and check that tey are still in baance and not loosing any voltage. A good lipo should not self discharge very fast, and if it is matched correctly it should not go out of balance either. I have some airthunder 2200 2s packs that I have had for at least 10 months, never charged them and they are still in balance and at good voltage...

Always good to keep an eye on your lipos, as they are expensive!

LOL...yes they are expensive, thats why i hate not running them and have them just sitting in the garage...I'm afraid I'm gonna do something to ruin them before i even get to run them that's why i really try to get any info i can about storing them ....thank you VERY much for the help and info

Both Hyperion and FlightPower explicitly say not to cycle packs on their labels.

I keep mine between 60 and 80% and they do stay close to that for quite a while. A friend has some 2100 TP packs and they retained voltage and balance for over 2 years unused, but wouldn't recommend that.
