neu motor wire length

Is there any problem in shortening the wires on the Neu motors? Mine form the factory are about 1.625 inches long. I would like to trim them back to say around .75 inch long.

It is not advisable to cut or trim the wires on the Neu motors. If you have to shorten any wires, do it on the ESC side.

George is correct, the wires out of the original neus are part of the windings and if you cut them down you may damage the motor and you will not be able to solder to the shortened wires because they have a varnish to protect the copper...


However if this is a castle neu you can shorten the wires...( I say this because there isnt really a reason to shorten the wires on the original neus, they are stubs already..



If you are trying to remove connectors or something, desolder them over chopping the wires.

I have a used neu that someone did this too, so only the very ends of the wire can be tined is there anyway to remove the varnish? or should I send it in?

Best bet is to send it in, but im sure there is a solvent that can remove it...

I second sending it in to Neu and have them repair it. I sent mine for bad bearings and they repaired it under warranty. Plus, they installed rubber grommets to protect the wires exiting the motor holes.

My wires are not stubs, they are 1.625 long from the factory, and about 1.25 of that is "tinned" from the factory. I'm having a hard time making my wiring look nice and neat on my e-revo becasue of the extra length. I do have other, used and brand new Neu motors that have shorter wires too. Thats why I was asking.

1.625" is a stub in my book.

You could trim a little off then if that much is tinned, but go easy all the same.

Come on 1.625 is the longest I have ever seen on a Neu and this is my 10th Neu. Another funny thing is I have 2 new Neu's 1515 1y both have this date (01/22/09) one had a flat along the whole shaft and the other only had a flat in one spot. Something strange going on here. Do they reuse old rotors from motors sent in for repair?

She is here and said she did not have the zoom enabled, so the pic is too fuzzy to make anything out...

As for the shafts (this just gets better huh) I guess neu may have more than one supplier? I returned a 1515 once and ended up with a rotor with at least 1.25" worth of shaft coming out the end... I had to trim it back as it would not fit the erevo mount.

well tin the whole thing first so you know where the varnish begins on the wire.

could you burn the varnish off with a lighter? you can do this with magnet wire.
