Lipo wire question - 03.16.2009, 11:23 AM

I just got this pack today and the battery leads are pretty thick. So thick that it will not fit into the Traxxas connector. Would it be okay if I trimmed off half of the bare wire so it will go into the connector and lock? Thanks

Those leads are a bit silly. I usually just remove them and replace with 12gauge wire, but I am more comfortable than most taking apart lipos.

My best suggestion would be to solder a short length of 12 gauge wire to the existing wires, and then solder the traxxas connector to that 12 gauge wire...

1/2 inch or so would do.

Yeah, get used to it...

Just look at it this way, the more issues you encounter, the more your skills will improve!

I have been in R/C for quite some time. It would just be nice if once in awhile a guy would order something up and you could throw it in and go run without having to dick around with it. I have totally tore down my HPI Baja completely and rebuilt the motor twice on it.

I could take a side cutter and trim off 1/3 of them or less and it would work. I guess I do not see any difference If I do that or splice in a smaller section of 12 gauge. Comments?

Scratch that. There is going to be way too much wire hanging out and I dont like that. Time to run to the hardware and get some 12. I will solder the ends side by side and then shrink wrap.

Well so much for that. I cannot find any decent wire. The shit at the hardware store is really hard and not flexible like the good stuff. I have no idea why they would put these big of wires on this pack. It is like the size of telephone cables.... So yeah, I'm fuggin happy.

Just ordered up 2 1 foot section of 12 gauge from Mike. What size shrink wrap will I need? I am going to just rewire it instead of splicing into it. Links? http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/?si...98&pgid=shrink

Solder on the TRX tips then grind(dremil with cut off wheel) down solder and wire to fit the connector size.
