Mamba Max and Novak 6.5 - 03.17.2009, 06:35 PM

Has anyone tried using a Mamba Max ESC to control a Novak HV 6.5 motor?

It's going in a Tekno-converted Losi 8ight buggy, running 4S obviously, 12/48 gearing with a long-shank pinion. The Novak HV Pro ESC has worked fine up until now; it seems to be heating up more quickly just recently. I've been wanting to replace the system for months, but just today I thought, "The motor is terrific, why not just replace the ESC?"

I'm sure it'll work. Just thought I'd ask on this mother-of-all-brushless forums if someone's done it before. If so, how well did it work or not. Thanks!

I used the MMM to run a hv6.5 motor- works just fine, only you get many more tuning options on the esc.

Only concern really is the gearing- the hvmaxx motors are roughly equal to an L sized feigao, so dont go too high or the motor will just cook itself, aim for no more than about 35-40mph in a ~9lb vehicle.

Thanks for the quick input!

Motor temp in the 8ight buggy is nothing short of awesome. 20 minutes of speedy racing only brings it up to 110dF with the 12/48 ratio. I'm getting 35 mph top speed and torque that is massive, yet under-control, which makes the buggy an absolute joy to drive.

And by the way- nice take on the Robot Wars logo.
