First I want to thank Mike for the fast response to get my acct active, because I'm new to the forum after lurking for a month or so. I wasn't sure where to post this but I was wondering if I'll have any problems using parts from an e-revo, summit, and an e-maxx. Most of the chassis and suspension is summit or revo based and will have a e-maxx transmission from the 3905 model. The main reason I'm going with the summit/revo chassis mix is because I wanted to try out the locking diffs but don't want to spend 600+ on a summit for just the diffs. Wanted to use the emaxx transmission so that I can use it's plate for a future upgrade to dual brushless and it looks to be the same as the e-revo. I've got the parts ordered and on the way so no pictures yet. I'm dubbing this my Project Traxxas Mutt. I was just wondering if anyone might have some experience or advice on mixing the parts or info on the summit diffs. Also what body mounts I should use so I can put a gravedigger or monstermutt style body on it. I'm just getting back into rc after finding an old car and parts in a box and now have 6 or 7 projects in mind, some of them already in the works. Thanks for any and all input.

unfortunantly....i tihnk your gonna be the teacher and we the students on this one... i believe your gonna have to make a few adaptors to ake everything fit nicely, but im with you...$600 for a summit is

Welcome to the Monster!

I was under the impression that the Summit/Revo used a very similar chassis..? It's not hard to modify a Revo chassis to accept the Maxx tranny (many members of this forum have done it).

It sounds like an interesting hybrid. I demand pictures the second you get parts in your hands.

Some pictures of parts for my project. Pix of the summit chassis, front and rear assemblies are mix of summit and revo parts, and maxx tranny. The only difference I have bee able to find between the revo and summit chassis is the small notch on the ends that let the locker levers hook to the differentials.

Pixs of the differentials and locking servos, all the parts I have for it assembled. Now just waiting on drive shafts, drive hubs, steering servos, shocks, and rx/tx. Have to decide on what rim/tire combo and body I want and finally the motor/s and esc that will power this monster. Last 2 pixs are of the new 775 and esc that I rigged to go in a really old truck I had laying around just to test the motor out. The torque it puts out is insane. Wants to pop a wheelie with hardly any throttle applied. Once it quits raining here and I get a basher body to help protect it I'll break the motor in a bit more.

I was going to try to run 2 of the new 775 titans. The size of it makes it hard to fit on the tranny like the 550's sit on a emaxx. Thinking of trying to make a mounting plate that flips them to face the opposite direction. At least untill I can afford a dual BL setup. I'd be happy for any input anyone has for me.

Kershaw Designs makes a mount for using dual 750 motors; you could try that out. Or call/email Mike and ask him to make one for you.

he's making a custom motor mount for my savage right now. the motor i am going to use is to big to go where a normal 36mm motor would go.


They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

Why not just one? they seem strong enough, and les stress on the EVX. you could turn the transmission around backwards and use a erevo/summit motor mount setup

More power that and it's a test for an idea I have for later. I'd like to keep the mount position over the 3905 tranny to put more of the weight front biased. So turning the tranny around backwards won't help because the problem is the 775 motor hits the tranny before the gears mesh. I figured to start with the stock summit pinion and emaxx spur. Next thing to figure out is running 2 EVXs and what battery setup I can do. I'm not sure I can fit 4 batteries in the chassis. I only have some NiMH batteries right now. Lipos have to come much later.

Why waste all the time and money to do this with 4 batts and 2 evxs and 2 motors when you could just do a bl setup? A MMM and an medusa or the mmm2200 combo will run around 250... With lower gearing you can still run the crap nimhs you already have (no dis on your batts, all nimhs are crap). Or get the HW 80 esc and a feigao 9-10xl (good setup for 35mph). That would be around 150 bucks... Sell the evx and the 775 motor and get more than half of that back...

^+2 on that.

Why the dual BL as well? Its not really needed at all. A single BL motor can put out more power than God can handle, so two is really unneeded and overly complicated.

Some have done that V-twin and other dual BL rigs, but overall they are a silly design and far more hassle and expense than they are worth.

Like was said, dual motor/ESC just complicates things, and increases the chances for problems should an ESC or motor go bad (like if a motor demags a little). I can't think of any instance where a single larger motor would not be preferable to a dual setup. Unless it's for show, because it does look cool.
