E-Maxx Upgrade Questions - 01.18.2006, 07:27 PM

Hello All,

After reading for a while on here, I decided it was time to ask some questions about upgrading my E-Maxx. I've done a lot of searches, so I hope these questions are somewhat intelligent.

I have a completely stock E-Maxx except for Hot Bodies threaded shocks and Revo Tires/Wheels. What I would like is to upgrade to a brushless setup, upgrade necessary drivetrain parts, upgrade the steering servo/servo saver and possibly upgrade the chassis as well. I would like to run 12-14 cells, with 12 cells being used the most often often. I have several sets of SMC Matched GP3300 6 cell packs, so those will be the first I'll use until I decide to step up to something newer. I'm a bit partial to Lehner as I have a Basic 5300 in my touring car and love the build quality of it. After reading a bit, it looks like if I want to stay with Lehner and 12-14 cells, the 2800XL is probably a good match for me. However, I have read multiple posts on here regarding which ESC to purchase. Of course, I would love to get away with a 7018 due to the price, but I could live with buying a 9920 if necessary. So, would a relatively stock E-Maxx perform well with a 2800XL and 7018 or 9020 on 12-14 cells?

My next question is what parts do I need to upgrade my drivetrain? I have the original E-Maxx, not the Widemaxx, so I'd need shorter CVD's. However, I've been thinking about changing out my A-Arms and turnbuckles to the Widemaxx version, either with Traxxas or RPM Arms. So, if I change those out, which CVD's and center drives would be recommended as an upgrade? Also, what other gears/drivetrain parts would I benefit from.

My overall goal is to have a pretty quick E-Maxx ~40mph, keep it pretty light and have it sturdy enough to bash with. I'm pretty open to any suggestions, but I do like the idea of the 2800XL and 7018 or 9920 combo. Also, anyone know the price of a 7018? It's not shown in the storefront.

Thanks,
Sean

well first off you would need a 9920 for sure although the little lehner i had ran pretty hot. i would recommend a wanderer 8xl or something along those lines. also, i would DEFINATELY upgrade to the widetrack. stay away from rpm because it can cause the cvds to pop out and bend. as far as chassis go i would say gorillamaxx or flm as well as ue cvds or mip.

Would I be better off buying a set of stock A-Arms instead of the RPM arms? I'd prefer to stay away from aluminum due to the weight and my driving habits.

the RPM arms are heavier than the stock ones, but are virtualy indestructable. Plus if you do break one, RPM will give you a new one for free (i think)

I would also agree with squee about looking into a wanderer XL (probably 7XL/8XL for you set-up). I run a BASIC 2000XL, and will soon be upgrading to a 10XL - extra power, runtimes and much cooler temps. The little lehners just run too hot in a big truck.

Stick with the traxxas widemaxx arms, not RPM. Full RPM wear plates and bulkhead brace. From their just go with all UE drivetrain. You will want new shocks, UE , RPM or big bore traxxas. I am going to link the UE stuff from their sight. When it is time to order give your list to mike and he will hook you up.

Drive train:

HArdened steel Idler
titanium center drive shafts for E maxx with cups
Ultralite 8 spyder Diff kit
6mm steel cvd with dace 23mm hubs set of four

Steering:
UE Servo Saver
Hitec 5955 steering servo

Add brushless of choice: 9920 will keep you from having to upgrade if you decide to make a switch. BK wanderer 7xl, or 9l, will perform very nicely on 12-14 cells.

do not forget your:Tony's screw's
Have a nice day:cool

i dont think rpm makes shocks :L: :L: i would certainly go with the proline powerstroke shocks and i would definately stay away from rpm arms. the stock are good but break easily so you might want to consider prolines. they are hard to find but fairly strong although weigh a little more than stock.

They do however make upgraded shock components, endcaps etc.... pointless if you ask me.

RPM do offer free replacements but it costs more to pay postage than it is to buy them new again anyway... lol.

to all,

it's been i while since i did any changes to my gorillamaxx right now i have
blue aluminum gorillamax extended chasis, mip cvd's, novak hv maxx, rmp upper and lower arms as well as shock towers, bulkhead braces are also rpm,
proline 25mm nuts with wabash white wheel on 40 series proline tires.
i'm now thinking of upgrading the batteries by going lipo but i don't know what
type the hv maxx can handle and which brand to get, i am also thinking of getting a gorillamaxx suspension system and a single speed tranny. how much do you think it would cost me to upgrade my truck.

Just copy what you've written there. Then go to this link http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/member.php?u=2 , and where it says private message, just send him a message by pasting your order in.
