The conversion looks cheap and the truck itself does not look sturdy IMHO.

You should probably finish your 18 first.... or at least sell it.

I'm going to finish my RC18T FT first. I'm just looking at options for my next rc though. I keep going back to the Hyper STe so I'll probably end up with one but I'll change my mind at least 100 more times... lol. A good review or bashing video of the Hyper STe would seal the deal though.

I am the same way.

You can tell by how many threads I started...everything from buggies, to MT's, I considered it all. Finally just decided on keeping the Savage.

its a good truck and its sturdy the only weak point i see is the battery trays as i had one of them snap on my buggy but there is a guy making aluminum trays for it.

I would go for it. When I was considering trucks, I could nit pick each one of them. A good point for each too. In the end, I went with the Savage. Not because it was the strongest (it's not), or the fastest (it's not), or puts out the best lap times (it doesn't) but because I liked the truck. Most of all, it seemed like fun to drive.

All in all, I'm sure you'll be happy either way you go.

Not really that great, IMO.

You have to make too many concessions with it.

First you have to run a pair of packs. And all the weight is at the back, not the way I like to set up a truck. And you do kinda have to run a pair of 2s or 3s packs. Only way to run 5s would be a pair of smaller mah packs in parallel, or try to find a decent cell sold in 2s and 3s (hard to find), or have your friendly neighborhood pimp split a 5s pack up for ya. Any way you look at it you have a pair of packs to maintain, more work than a single pack.

Plus on a truggy you can put the esc behind the battery on the tank side, and put the motor behind the servo. Better balance and the weight is farther forward.

And looking at it the lenght of the motor may be limited (no 1527 motors!), I know the buggy has limits, maybe the truggy has more room?

My plan was to flip the center diff around and only run one battery so it would make the layout like a normal truggy. That way I would be able to run a 5s pack. If the only downside really is the battery tray set up than if I had to I could just buy and use an rcm battery tray.

Have you looked into other rollers? Even used would be a good deal. E-bay, and RC F/S forums are your friend. New 8ight 1.0's go for that much.

I had planned out a Hyper 7 TQ black buggy conversion. Only $300 for the truck RTR, and then you could either run it as a nitro for a while, or sell the nitro stuff (new) for a roller that will end up costing around $200. By the time you sell throttle/brake servo, engine, etc.

I though about getting a Hyper 7 but I don't like how buggies look. I'm just been more of a truggy person. I have though about buying a used roller but I always hear about people getting one and needing to replace around $50-100 of stuff and at that point it's not much more to buy new and know 100% your not going to have any problems.

I alwase liked the look of duel batt layout, easyer to run larger packs, and i can still use the batts in my 1/10.

I would not buy the truggy version, mabey the buggy though

I don't like the looks of a buggy and want something that could handle some semi rough terrian.

if you want to do that you could also to run a single pack. just spin the diff around but i would reccomend getting a nitro chassis to offset the diff to balance everything out.

What about an E-maxx? No conversion needed, and could be a fun project. Tons of upgrades and parts support. Chris did a really nice build thread on his "beater" project. He had quite a bit of money into it, but some of his cheap mods were pretty good. Keep in mind, you could run a buggy on 4s, and have very little driveline stress. Buggies are super tough, and their parts (such as tires and bodies) are cheaper then truggies or MT's. You got along with the Slash you had, and the Rustler, and the rc18. A buggy could probably do most of the same stuff.

Don't let the price shy you away from what you want. Do it right the first time, and if you have to save, go for it... I haven't driven an RC in a month, which is a really long time for me. Hoping the end result will be worth it though.
