I have a Zippy/Rhino 1750mah 25C 2S Li-Po for my RC18T. They use 12ga wire which is WAY overkill for a 1/18. How hard would it be to disassemble the pack and solder on some thinner wire? Also would I also be able to shorten the balance plug wires? I ordered an extender for my charger so I would be able to use a Li-Po Sack but there is no need to have the balance plug wires be so long with the use of an extender. Oh, and one more thing, what kind of heatshrink should I use when I rebuild the pack?
Changing the wires wouldnt be that tricky, but you will probably need the special flux and solder if you remove the wires right from the tabs on the cells (could always cheat and just replace the wires just after the exit the pack). Shortening the balance tap wires would be the same procedure really, but it would be just as easy to bundle them up a bit with a ziptie rather than mess around shortening them.
OK sounds good. I'm going to wait until I order another battery first just in case I mess up. I think I'm going to get some blue or black heatsink because the yellow doesn't look good at all.
Seeing as its a Rhino lipo I think Grey would look good (normal stuff is fine, just match the diameter to the lipo and allow a bit of extra for shrinkage before its... shrunk).
Worse come to worse I would only be out $20. I don't think I would mess up if I just changed the wires and left the balance plug wires alone. I know one thing for sure I'm going to deal with it until I get my 2nd pack just in case something happens.
