Shortening wires on medusa? - 05.27.2009, 09:53 AM

Hey guys, is it possible to shorten your wires on medusa motors or are there windings in the wires, killing your motor if you shorten the wires?

they are the windings- why do you need to shorten them?

I think you may find them hard to solder if shortened as well.

Like Feigao, LMT, etc; the wires are simply extensions of the coil wires. As such, they have an insulating coating (to prevent shorting to adjacent wires) on all but the last inch or so. If you cut that part off, you will not get a good solder connection. Even if you scrape this coating off, the connection will still be extremely poor.

There is a solution you can get that will dissolve the coating, but it may "wick up" the wire. If the insulation is dissolved inside the motor where the coils are, bad things will happen.

It is best and easiest to simply use shorter interconnect wires if possible. Or, maybe Medusa can peform the service for you if you contact them.
