Bl Cen matrix build -
09.25.2008, 03:35 PM
Hey guys im picking up a second hand cen matrix tr FRE edition, it just gonna be a basher. occasional racer.
Setup will be:
5s 4000mah Zippy lipo (blue heatshrink)
MMM w/ switch removed
Neu 1515 1y-possibly castle's if they release it soon
M8 radio
Duratrax sx-200 servo

that mount is old ^^^
I have a few questions:
As far as battery trays go, i dont have 45 dollars to drop on a RCM tray as much as i would like..
I currently have a twin force tray, but i would need to cut one side off it to get my batt to fit.. Has anyone run the tekno battery tray? the only problem is that my battery is an odd size 50.8mm wide and 151mm long, i dont know if stuffing the battery into the tray would be such a good idea..
Second is for a motor mount, i am debating between Mike's mount and Tekno's 44mm mount.. any suggestions, questions or concerns,
Thanks for the help in advanced
-Ben

make your own! i made my tray from the sae plastic (HDPE) that mike uses. the flexiable (somewhat) chopping boards, tell ya what, its 100 times easier to work on comared to acrylic sheet!
i used a mill to cut mine but u could easily use a coping saw or similar to do it. took me a few hrs but im happy with my job. check my hyper 8.5 build thread for pics...
the mount, u can always just try making one yourself or saving up and spending the cash on mikes one.

If you use the Tekno mount, you will need some metal chassis stiffeners to prevent chassis flex which would change the gear mesh. With the RCM mount, you don't have to worry about this because the motor mount is attached to the center diff. I really liked the Tekno battery tray for the Revo, so I am sure the quality of their other battery tray will be as good. Only problem is that you have to drill 4 new holes. With the RCM battery tray, you can use existing chassis holes which is a huge benefit in my opinion, however I found the Tekno battery tray to be more securely mounted to the chassis, but the RCM tray holds the battery more securely, so each have their pluses and minuses. You can't go wrong with either one though.
Hope this helps.

Thanks jnev, i knew there would be flex inthe chassis-but didnt think that there would be so much to throw off gear mesh. so it looks like rcm mount... have to scrounge up some funds for that. or... i could make a flat mount out of 1/8th inch aluminum, bolt it to the center diff.
as for battery tray.... still 10 bux vs. 45 bux.
Tc3, do you have any other pics of that tray?

Is Mikes mount designed for the truggy or buggy, buggy has 46t spur, truggy has 66.

Its designed for the buggy but will work with the truggy. Cant have huge pinions seeing how the spur is big and that the mount is shorter.

my point, i dont know if anything will fit, i would need a 9 tooth to go 38mph...
with the big spur i need like a 14 tooth to do anything decent.
i think the tekno mount is a better choice here, i have 2 3.9inch turbuckles that i can use as braces to prevent chassis flex :D
