I need a new radio.... - 04.03.2009, 09:29 AM

I need a new radio in bad way... I already have a 4 or 5 receivers for Spektrum radios so I was mainly looking at them unless it was a modular system I could use Spektrum stuff in.. Is the DX3R worth the money over the DX3S? or should I look at something like the futaba 3pk with a spektrum module? What do you guys use?

I run the M8 with the spektrum module, Some think the m8 is really ugly but i like it. Im also running a 3s 2500mah lipo battery which reduced weight on the transmitter.. Its nicely balanced.

I'm happy with my DX3S. Some folks think it feels cheap...I think in part because it's so light. However, the functionality it has for the price is excellent, especially since it comes with 2 Rx's.

I had the S but sold it for the R...

For me the S didn;t work out : 10 cars wasn't enough (oops), i was never going to use telemetry, the 3rd channel is 2 position only (useless for crawling) and it felt very plasticy...

There are some killer deals on the R if you know where to look

Im a huge fan of the DX3R. It has so many functions and features and a 30 model memory. I love the nice big screen. I like the bind button, Just select bind and it binds no holding down buttons and turing it on and off. The scrolling selector is really nice. The price is not really that bad I have seen them for $250 + shipping and I know ultimate hobbies has them for $275 with free shipping.

I hear people with the S saying they wish they had the R all the time.

I got the R just before the S came out, but I don't regret it. I'm already up to 7 RC's on it, and can see I'll pass 10 quickly.

I don't get all of the advanced features just yet, and the manual makes no sense, but I figure if I play with them enough I'll figure em out.

As mentioned, binding is super easy on the 3r, the model list & naming all your models makes it great to use. I really recommend it!

I use a m11 and a m8, both with spectrum modules and rx.

Seeing as the dx3r is the newest and greatest I would say to go with that. If I decide to upgrade i will go with it. I most likely will not upgrade as i have had alot of success with the airtronics stuff, and know how to use all of the m11's functions (that took a while to learn).

I definitely like 2.4ghz, much better than anything else I have tried. I bought the m11 for use with mech brake setups, but have since changed my mind and mostly use motor brakes. The flexibility of a top end radio is very handy. If it is only 50-75 bucks more for the r model I would say to go for it.

I'll answer that for him - yes, he does We have a pretty good local race community and we're re-building our driver's stand this month. Track just got a new layout over the last weekend.

And by the way Lucias - check the CDB local forum. There's a guy selling a DX3R right now. I think he posted it over the last day or two. His name is Tim and he's a really nice guy.

The 3pk black is super nice. My friend has a DX3r and my LHS owner uses a 3pk black ed. 2.4ghz faast system. I like the 3pk because it looks alot nice and its backlit. Also has a better feel to it. The signal response time is about the same from my point of view. I really would like to get one but funds havent been the greatest lately....

I also like my DX3r. Never tried the S, but the limited model memory would keep me away. I would never use the telemetry either.

If you already have receivers, why not get a DX3.0? I'm sure they are selling cheap right now, like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/SPEKTRUM-DX3-0-R...3A1%7C294%3A50

Yeah, it only has 4 model memory, but that along with your present one (if you have one) should give you enough slots. And having two radios is nice in case you and a buddy want to go play - just rebind as necessary. I have a DX3.0 I'm keeping for that very reason...
