New Entry Level 2.4 Radio system -
06.11.2009, 06:29 PM
Well, Tower just made the big boys a little nervous - they released an entry level 2.4 system for 79.99 - extra recievers only 16.99. http://www.towerhobbies.com/promos/e...0224_0609.html
Good to see this become more available to the entry level crowd - maybe the price point on the higher ends might adjust a little in the near future. It was easy to keep certain price levels when there were only 3 or 4 names in town.
Losi 8T 1.0, Savage Flux - XL style, LST XXL, Muggy, 3.3 E-Revo Conversion and sitting outside 425hp, 831 Tq Dodge Ram Turbo Diesel. It SMOKES

Hmm, no epa, or expo, no 3rd channel, no multiple model memory. So you would need a new tx for each vehicle. I guess it is good for someone who only has 1 rc and wants to upgrade. I would steer them towards a used spectrum or airtronics radio. I was buying used fm synth rx for 25 bucks and picked up a m8 for 80...
Not sure if this is much more than a gimmick.

Yeah, I got a Tower notification about this today. Looks like a basic system, but quite affordable for 2.4GHz. I would pay an extra $20 if it had EPA. Bindable to multiple receivers is VERY nice too - kinda like a budget multi-model memory. And the price for the receivers can't be beat. I wonder (doubt it) if those receivers will be compatible with Spektrum systems? Sure would be ~$90 to get a receiver!

I bought an AE XP3D on eBay with no module for $40 shipped. I'm going to get a 2.4ghz module and 2 receivers from HobbyCity for $90. So for $130 I get a 2.4ghz radio with 10 model memory and all of the features I'll ever need.

Ahh, so the module from HC will work in the AE radio? Do they have any other modules? I will have to peruse the site...

It's a Futaba module which fit in the XP3D. I was reading on another forum and someone said that the Futaba modules fit so I got the idea to check out HC and they have a nice Futaba set up.

Its simple enough to mod it to have EPA, just needs some time, skill and some potentiometers

That is the same radio as the Tactic 2.4ghz that comes stock in the UL1 hydro boat. A nice little basic radio, no real adjustments but it definitely get the job done.

I just ordered the moudule so it will hopefully be here when I get back from New Orleans. I should be able to test it with my RC18T before I trade it for a Revo 2.5 conversion.

I'm going to visit my niece for the 2nd time. My family and I are going to stay in Meanderville, LA. I would bring my RC18T FT but the Radio is glitching too bad and I need an antenna mount.

I like this one better, it has a 4 position switch for rear steer control... Most likely can mix the other channels?
