trying to find the right motor/esc combo again -

could use a little help folks:Ive raced an RCM .5 since march and ive done pretty well,BUT!My original set up was a .5 rcm chassis,a novak GTB w10.5 and a 5000 2s 35c.The tires i made up were on ofna mini truggy dishes w 10th truck tires and standerd foams.the truck seamed underpowerdedon the 10.5 so i installed a 6.5and it seemed better but it ran warm so igeared down and motored up to a 4.5with a 9tooth and for a time it seemed perfect. Now the tk developed a nasty habit of traction rolling and i looked it over and the sidewall off the tire was folding under in hard corners and the wheel rim would dig in and over it would go!next i found the trinity ultra firm tk foams and trimmed them to fit the dishes and now it realy works greatbut the more i developed the tk the more irealized that no matter how i geared it , it wanted to run above 170degrees motor and 120 on the ESCin about six min.and bashing in my yard it go200 real fast .so now i decide on a 7.5 HVnovak on 3s and now it run at 110 to 140 but its aufully hard to stay ahead of even with the EPA turned down to 70%.That helps on the top end but the punch is hard to drive for me in a race . I have all the ofna billit hop ups and my truck weighs 5 lbs on gtb/6.5/2s and 5lbs14oz on7.5HV3s.IM looking for somthing comparable to 4wd 10th scale buggy on 10.5 2s that wount heat coffee for ten minutes after your run for $300 or so.names and part # would be great. thanks for you suggestions.Doug
Or if you have more 2s lipos go with the 4800kv 50mm medusa.
I use a neu 1509 4500kv motor on my hyper mini ste on 2s lipo with a MM and everything does well, temps are around 130 on the motor after 20min. Geared for 38mph, IIRC.
I agree with Lincpimp. I have been running the 36-50-4800 on 2s andgeared between 30&40MPH it has never been over 130*. I just stripped out the threads for the mounting screws though so I'm going to try a 3300 I picked up at a decent price. I have been told that the 3300 gears up nice for 2s runs and is perfect on 3s. I would have rather had another 4800 but came across this 3300, haven't tried it yet though
I concur as well; 36-50-3300 on 2s or 3s, 36-50-4800 on 2s.
One addition though; if you want even cooler running and/or the ability to gear higher, you could step up to a 36-60-3100 and would be perfect for 3s, and still work ok geared up on 2s. The only reason I suggest this is 6lbs is pretty porky for something so small, and if you like heavy throttle, the slightly larger motor will stay cooler because of more surface area.
my re remotor, clarifications please ? -

my thanks to all that contributed, a few questions .By MM you mean the TMM,s on the RCM catalog, right? and if so witch one ? Also as a less exspensive option would a Mamba monster or max function similarly? My troubles have not been ESC they have been all motors and for now money is in real short supply and all my other ESC,s are sensored and the medusa/NEU arent sensored so the medusa,s are in budget and either of the mambas are closer to budget than theTMM,s, but if they arent gonna work ill just have to shelf the .5 for a wile thanks again Doug Shelp
hey fellas all the info was very helpfull however one more question please. Are any of the respondents to my motor questions running the RCM chassis with 10th truck sized tires, ive been noticing some overheat issues when folks try the truck tires on there minis with "MM" systems not way hot but hot enough to beg this question. thanks PS:I lost a race i should have won tonight because my novak hv is subject to impact shut downs when i slap land a jump what if any of this problum are you aware?
I don't have the RC-M chassis but I have run 1/10 truck tires, specifically Slash tires. Depending on the gearing and terrain yes the MM gets a bit warmer than I'd like but my Medusa has always been cool. When I had it geared for 39-40MPH and running through grass on a 85-90* day I was in the high 160* range on the MM. Dropped the gearing down and no more problems. I don't think that much more than 33-35MPH is needed with these.
