Tekin 1550kv Truggy motor - 09.05.2009, 08:04 PM

I had a problem with this motor today and was wondering if anyone had any idea what could be wrong. I ran four packs last week and no issues, ran one pack today and no issues. Then on my second pack it seemed like the battery died sooner than normal and the motor was hotter than normal, temped at 183 degrees, normally it temps between 150 and 160.

I also felt some binding like a gear mesh was way too tight or the driveline was binding. Gear mesh was perfect, pulled the pinion off to check the driveline and it is smooth as silk. I have been running this motor for awhile now and loved it until today.

So looking at it closer it looked as if the pinion had moved closer to the can, it did, it was rubbing grinding a slight groove in the top of the can. Fixed that and put another pack in. Buggy felt fine, but at about the 15 minute mark it felt like my brakes were gone, and again the battery dumped a little sooner than normal.

When I pulled the body off this time the esc fan was on, the battery was pretty hot and the motor temped at 220 degrees. Again I felt binding, pulled the pinion and it was the motor, really hard to turn. Once it cooled to room temp. the motor was easy to turn again.

Here's what I'm wondering, since there are so few moving parts what would be doing this. I put a set of high quality ceramic bearings in it a few weekends ago, my guess is they must of taken a crap.

My setup:
Hyper 9e
5s Hyperion 30c LiPo's
MMM, conservative settings, settings I've always ran with great results.

So since it temped at 220 and the brakes felt non-existant I would imagine it demaged somewhat. So for a replacement motor, well not sure on another Tekin, and I just sold a freakn brand new Medusa 36-70-1600kv yesterday, which I knew I should have kept as a backup.

Thanks for any help.
