Help me chose a brushless setup for my Losi XXX-T - 02.03.2006, 04:43 AM

I am not looking for outrageous power. I want something that’s a little more power then stock but with much better run times. Power is great but run times are the most important to me. I am thinking I will probably go with a 6000 or 8000mha 2 cell Lipo battery. Which controller and motor would work best for what I need? It can get pretty hot where I live in the summer. So between the summer heat and those extra long run times I will need something that runs as cool and efficient as possible.

Also, if I can I would like to have the ability to run a typical 6 or 7 cell NiMh battery as well as the 2 cell Lipo. If this makes things complicated then I will just stick with Lipo battery only.

If you are planning on a nice and rather fast ride;

the wanderer 8S with a 7020 controller would do fine in your application.

Or the MGM controller, they have got this built in lipo cut-off, which is needed to prevent the lipo's from being damaged.

With the 7020, you need to use an external LVC device (low voltage cutoff) and the MGM needs to be reprogrammed if you want to change from NIMH's to Lipo and visa versa. Thinking about it, perhaps the 7020 is the easiest.

Welcome to the forum bytheway!

Hey thanks for the help.

I only see Wanderer 7s, 10s, and 12s in the site. Where do I find the 8s?

I'm new at this and I'm not sure which controller is the 7020. I looked threw all of RC-Monsters brushless controllers and didn't see any 7020.

OK I just sent an email to Mike.

What is the difference between Wanderer XL, L, and S series motors?

it is about the size of the motor.

The bigger, the more torque it has got. But you really don't want an L or an XL in your XXX-T, i use an RC10T2 with the 8S, on 3S lipo it is ridiculous fast..

Yes, but require more cells to match the RPM's of the S and are heavy compared to the S. good for wheelies

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

It is not said that it will run cooler.

It is too much motor for the xxx-t. the 8S will be pretty insane already.

8S sounds good to me, but since that motor and speed controller is unavailable then what do you suggest. I need a motor and speed controller that rc-monster has in stock. I sent mike a email but have not received a reply yet.

My friend has a castle creations mamba controller that can be programmed threw his computers usb port. I really like its interface and the way it works. His rc is a small 1/18 scale car and it runs a much smaller motor. Is there a brushless motor that will fit my xxxt that is low power and efficient enough to run off the castle creation mamba controller?

no, you will need something that will handle about 70 amps like the 7020 or the mgm 80 amp controller and if im not mistaken the mamba is only 25. the 8s with the mgm 80 amp esc is a very good choice. you might want to tighten the diff pretty tight because if might fry the ball diff. at least thats what i have heard. have you considered something like the novak 5.5 or 4.5 gtb?

The MGM 80 and Feigao 8s motors are both listed on the site. This is probably the motor/controller combo that would best meet your needs. The MG can run numh batteries with the Lipo safety setting, too, so it really isn't necessary to re-program if you run different battery types. The Lipo safety is the important feature. With the proper gearing, this setup will be very good to you. You may even consider a Feigao 380c motor(which I will get listed over the weekend in the store. The 380c6L motor comes to mind for your application. :)

mike, do you think there would be enough room for one of the rcm heatsinks on a xxxt?
