E-bike concept, - 07.17.2009, 01:27 PM

Between Metal and a co-worker the idea of making an e-bike sounds cool, and somewhat cost effective, I may make one but before I do I've got some questions that I can't quiet seem to find through a google sarch. Also I figured since we have a few e-bike/e-vehicle folks on this forum, and the setups I would to use would be using rc motors and esc's.

Obviously I'd need a motor for an e-bike otherwiase It'd just be a bike, I was thinking of using http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...ner_(eq:_70-55)

Model: TR80-100-A
Turns: 6
Maximum Power: 7000W
Resistance: 17ohm
Idle Current: 3.5A
ESC: 150A
Input Voltage : max. 48V
Kv : 180 rpm/V
Weight: 1570g
Shaft: 12mm
Voltage Range: 20-48v
Non Load Current: 3.3A
Equivalent: 60-80cc Gas Engine

However theres a few things I'm curious about and google gave my junk for answers, idle current is that saying that the motor is sucking up 3.5A just to sit there, and non load current is that saying the motor will draw 3.3A when spinning at x rpms with no load? Also lets say we use a 12s lipo pack thats 44.4v into a 180kv motor gives us about 8k rpm does anybody knw what the max rpm is for one of these, turnigys site is down?

Look at endless-sphere. It's an e-bike forum and they have a nom hub motor section. People have used that motor before.

I hope to use that motor one day on a bigger bike, but I have a smaller 250kv outrunner I'm currently putting on a BMX bike. I just need to find a dang rear wheel...

Good luck with your project!
