Zune HD or iPod Touch 3G -
08.15.2009, 01:47 AM
I need to get a new PMP because I broke my screen on my 1G iPod Touch and when I do fix it I'm giving it to my little sister.
Almost all of the details are out for the Zune HD but almost nothing for the iPod Touch 3G.
I like the 720P output of the Zune HD but you need to buy a $90 adapter. (Talk about overprices accessories) I also like that the Zune software also offers a subscription service for downloading music.
But with the iPod Touch 3G I would be getting a camera either 3.2MP or 5MP. Most of the roumers are saying 3.2MP which is the same as my phone so unless it's a 5MP then it's really not that much of a advantage. App support is a huge plus but when my iPod was working I spent most of the time watching movies, listing to music, or browsing the internet. (All of which the Zune HD can do)
I'm leaning toward the Zune HD as of right now just because I want to try something different and the 720P video output.
Which one would you get?

I vote iPod Touch. You already know the layout, and what it's capable of (more or less). I have a 2G, and it's the only Apple product I own, have owned, or will ever own. My only gripe is iTunes, but it hasn't been a big deal.

720p output on a tv sounds kind of dumb for a PMP feature. if you go over someone's house, chances are they have a dvd player too. and I'd rather stick some dvds in my pocket than a dock that i have to plug into the tv and wall. the hd radio feature is quite a nice thing to have, provided you have some good stations around you. its nice when you want a fresh random approach for music instead of the same old same old. then again, if you will be around the house, mowing the lawn with it, etc. an iTouch with the pandora app with wifi works just as well.
bottom line: wait out for the ipod unless you really want the hd radio. also, looking at the patterns apple follows, they are due for a memory upgrade, possibly 64gb.

get one of the new 10 inch laptops. Dell has one for like $200 bucks. I love mine! (Thanks RCM familia!) Should out perform any fruit or whatever the hell a zune is. My batt lasts 9.5 hrs!

My wife has gone through 6 ipods since 2006 and I have had my zune for over a year now. I originally was a fan of the ipod until having to deal with Mac people to get one fixed.
I love my zune, it has been much more stable and reliable than any of here ipods (original video, nano gen I and nano gen III).
My zune is much more stable, has nevered crashed or frozen, and to me is more intuitive to control. The software is much more fluid as well. It seemlessly sets everything up and goes to work with very little input needed from you. I also like the monthly service you can buy and download as much as you want.
I will admit the original zunes were lacking, but since genII and beyond they have been great.

I almost forgot about those netbooks! I'd get just about any of the eee pc's by asus(the original and IMO the best bang for your buck). except their one with the touchscreen. it is dreadfully underpowered to keep it low costing.
I had an eeepc, but sold it to a member on these forums, and boy do i miss it.
Also, there is a little gem I found by Dell that nobody seems to know about. It is a netbook like their del mini, but it has a built in touch screen. It's cheap, and has some pretty good features. click the pic for more info

I have never been a fan of the iPods. I remember everyone rushing out to buy one when they first came out and none of them lasted much more than a few years, so I eventually went with a Creative Zen MicroPhoto which I still use now (sitting right here charging as I type, I have used it every day for the past 5-6 years). It has a replaceable battery, and I have had to replace it but it's very reliable. The original Zunes had some issues but I think the newer ones are much nicer. I've heard even the new Zune PC software is buggy, but still better than iTunes.
All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.

iPod touch ftw. Did you mean iphone 3g or is there a 3g ipod coming out?
The ipods UI is a step above the zune's interface. Also, the jailbreaking and capabilities of the ipod touch is immense.

I'm talking about the next generation iPod Touch that should be released in September.
I don't want/need a netbook because I already have my laptop and a netbook won't fit in my pocket when I skate.

Ipod (mac) is so miserable with their software and connection capabilities interfacing with say itunes that if you dont have the mac (ipod) they wont let you connect. Nazis. The cut off the palm pilot phone that looks like the itouch from using itunes and thats where my wife has the 1000's of wasted stupid songs saved so were pretty much stuck with ipods to access it.. I will not speak of my other pc, limewire and toshiba 20g mp3 player after seeing that guy get sued for $380,000 over 22 songs

Love my Zune, Dad and bro do too. I've had quite a few iPods and like my Zune a lot more. I also want one of those mini laptops too!
