spectrum receiver no range!! - 05.02.2009, 05:10 PM

hey running a spectrum dx2.0 with sr3000 and I have no range at all (50-75 have to walk closer to it for it to pick up.) Not the location a friend with a trx am radio runs fine out there with good range also.ft.. I've tried moving the receiver around and nothing.. I'm thinking with 2.4 it shouldn't matter where its located.. I guess I need to send the receiver off to spectrum, not sure anyone ever had this prob?lmk

Does this range issue affect both throttle and steering? If just throttle, try an ferrite ring around the throttle cable. If both are affected, try moving the antenna, braiding the motor wires, adding a capacitor (1,000uF+ / 10v) on an unused servo port, etc.

I assume you've tried a different location right? 2.4Ghz is more resistance to interference, but not impervious.

I had an issue with range/glitching once and it turned out to be a questionable antenna wire on the receiver. I soldered a new one on and it's been fine ever since.

what do you mean by questionable wire? mine has some nicks in the antenna but no cut wire. might try the ring.. Yeah I've moved it around and motor wires are already braided..

In my case, there were no noticeable breaks, but the wire had a few kinks. I figured it would't hurt to replace it just in case, I did, and it worked fine thereafter. Not saying this is your issue, just something to look for.

Check your batts in the remote too. Whenever my spektrum gets below 11v range begins to decrease.

As for the antenna wire, just use the same gauge and you will be fine. Iv'e done this many many times (especially when I had AM). If you want, (not sure if you can solder or not) I'd be more than happy to replace your antenna for you (free of charge of course). We are both in NC so shipping would be quick.

All you need is a wire of the same gauge. I often use old headphone wires.

Yup, same or very similar gauge wire is needed. There is a coating on the receiver board though that needs to be removed. Just scrape around that area and then solder, otherwise it can get a bit messy. And since this board is so small, try not to keep too much heat on it for too long.

bringing this thread alive again......

After replace a melted MMM......my Dx2.0 lost almost all your range......

it glitchs a lot when you push full throttle, and when its behind something (a Baja for example) it stops.....lost the signal, i go to the car, and it re-activate, both str and thr stops......

I dont have a spare receiver, so, i will try searching each part of the system, as I tried to race today without any good result.........
