Suggestions for new XT8 motor - RC-Monster Forums

As some of you know, my neu 1515 2Y 1100kv Heli version motor broke, and I'm ordering a new one. I'm running 6s lipo, so I was considering the 1500kv 1.5Y version to get a bit more rpms. Is there a big difference between the 1.5Y and the 2.5D (1650kv) ? Not talking about the kv, but the Y vs D thing.

D winds need low timing, losing efficiency to the point of power loss while pulling higher currents with higher timing. Whereas Y winds can take higher timing at a smaller reduction of efficiency, increasing the current but also the power output.

I don't think the Y vs D thing is enough to worry about, set the timing accordingly. The 2.5D on 6s is pretty popular bashing set up for many here. I have been running that set up in my Muggy for quite some time and love it. I will be moving the set up to a truggy soon, since I just got the new Castle 1520 motor for the Muggy.

What about one of the Tekin Truggy motors? I have the 1700kv on 5s and it works great. Not as much torque as my old Medusa 36-80-2000, but easier to handle. Keep in mind the XT8 has a pretty small spur to work with, so you may have gearing limitations depending on the speed you want. What I like about the Tekin is the motor wire contacts; I don't have to worry about the stiff coil wires breaking over time like a Neu.

Well, it's a little shorter than the 80mm Medusa. Medusa really has some powerful motors IMO.

I really like the Tekin T8's completely rebuildable design.

I wonder what strength of magnet the Tekin uses versus the Medusa motors?

I also wonder if the 70mm Medusa Rotor will fit the Tekin?

Hmmm...........need measurements.

I have several 60mm's and a 70mm Medusa. One of them could serve as a "donor".

I had that same heli motor in my XT8 on 6s and loved it. I used my truggy for racing only though. If you're using it for bashing then I highly doubt the efficiency of Y vs D will make any difference. Why not try something like the 3D @ 1360kv?

As there seems to be a few XT8 owners here and I got no responce to my own thread I'm going to ask what you guys are using for spur gears, are there any plastic spurs available or are you all running stock steel spurs and hardened pinions? Plastic or steel how many teeth does the spur you run have? I have to work out my gearing.

I used the Kyosho spurs for all of mine. Although it requires a little work as it's not a direct fit on the XT8 diff. I used a small pointed file and worked the screw holes on the spur until it fit. Worked awesome and my spur never needed a change. Hope that helps.

the AE plastic gears are a direct fit to the xray diff.... you will need the rc8 oring kit so you have the right o ring for the AE spur though as the xray is too small OD.

Or buy Mike's slipperential.. that is direct fit for XT8... that is what I am using

which is exactly what I don't want my tires to by doing while on track. But this is supposed to be basher, so it don't have to be fast anywhere else than straight line so I guess you're fine.

Well apart that that slipperential protects you motor after big jumps by slipping and taking all the heat instead of rotor.

Brian you are right. I run the 1700kv motor in my truggy on 5s and it is great w/my mmmv3.Very smooth.8ight2.0 is great
