Question for you guys running brushless and Lipos.... - 02.13.2006, 10:05 PM

Hey guys, Alex from Boom Boom Batteries here. I'm thinking about stocking a new cell that is somewhat like a lipo. It has a 76A max discharge. My question is: If I have two lipos running on my set up (i.e. an E-maxx) that are each 7.4V with a 76A Max Discharge, when I go to run them, will my max discharge be 152A or 76A? I'm worried that 76A won't be enough for those of you guys running brushless... Thanks for your help!

it would be 76 amps. it should be plenty for most. they would only be 152 if in parallel. what kind of cells? price? mah?

They are going to be 3800mah 7.4V. They are completely different than Lipo in that they don't explode :) They have a higher voltage and more punch. Look for them in stock on RC-Monster soon... If you're interested in getting one earlier, PM me, and I can probabely get you one of my samples...

They sound good will they require a different charger? What kind of charger will they use?

They use the same charger as standard lipos. They look like a Lipo in their build. Same size as a normal Nimh pack. Light like a Lipo though :) The only thing I need right now to release them is a decent Low Voltage Detector, anyone have one they like?

Could we get some more specs?

As far as 76amps go, that number won't mean anything in a RC car. That could be the maximum continuous amp draw, or the maximum burst rate for 10seconds (you get the idea). These cars can easily pull very large amp spikes, but the batteries don't have to be specified to handle such large amp spikes. For example, my Eagle Tree MicroPower Data Recorder recorded a 97amp spike in my Rustler with a 4s 5400mah 8C/15C (43amps continuous/81amps burst) Lipo on a Feigao 540 12s motor. The cell voltage dropped to about 3.2v/cell, but the pack also was not warm (if it was, the voltage would have been higher).
The point I am getting at is that these amp draw numbers aren't all that important for car guys, but more for airplane guys.

As far as your question goes, if you have two packs in parallel, the possible amp draw rate effectively doubles, as long as the wiring/connectors can handle that.

What's the price going to be? Right now I have some cylinder-shaped LiFePO4 batteries that are better than NiMh in all areas except price and shape, but safer and more robust than Lipo (and can also charge at 2C). These are 3.2v 1200mah 16C cont. cells, and are $8.50/cell.

What are you looking for in a LVC? I could point you to the schematic of one that you could make (DIY) that could work for any voltage. What's the LVC for these cells?

SH Z-Car, Custom Crawler, 8s Savage, 12s XTM XLB 1/7 buggy, 4wd 4-link rear/IFS Pro4 truck, Custom Hyper 10 Short Course, Belt-Drive Mammoth ST 1/8 truggy, 4s 17.5 MM Pro HPI Blitz

I'll try to get to all your questions. They have a 20C Continuous rating (76A). They will be approximately $100.00 each. Yes, they are Li-mn.
