HI-Tec 5955 question - 02.17.2006, 10:03 AM

A couple quick questions about a new Hi-Tec 5955 coming form a new guy in the fun. I have basically a stock E-Maxx. I just placed the new servo which is working great. My questions are:
1) It makes a high pitch noises when turning, it does not do it when in a neutral position. Is that normal?
2) The chassis flexes a bit when it turns. Is that a sign of it not being aligned?
3) The length between the servo screw holes are about 1-2 mm shorter then the ones on the chassis. It still mounts on there. Will that cause any problems in the future?

Thanks for all the help! I have ordered the BK 12020, Strobe slipper and am waiting on the Wanderer 8XL to get in. Proline shocks and MIP diffs are installed. I am having a lot of fun doing it and I appreciate all the direction you all are giving a new guy.

1) All servos do this. I think it sounds quite cool actually....
2) Once/if you upgrade your chassis you won't get this problem anymore. The stock chassis is just too flimsy and will twist with the torque of a poweful servo.
3) I had this problem with my servo (bluebird 630-MG/xtreme brushless carbon fibre chassis), but like in your case, my servo still fit in. I've had no problem with it after 30+ runs.

btw. if you've never run brushless before, you'll love the 8XL! And even if you have, you'll still love it!

Also with some after-market chasis you will still have the flex. The upper plate on my g-maxx chasis still flexes when i turn

you can always use 2 servo plates for the g-maxx chassis.

The top plate on my chassis is 4mm carbon fibre - no flex at all there :D:D:D

Hey Damon - Welcome - If your maxx is basically stock and your going to add the awesome power of BL - you are going to want to get a couple things to make sure you can harness the power. Most people once they go BL - usually only use one gear, second (First is basically used for flipping over and scratching the heck out of the top of the body and snapping off body mounts - LOL). Some things that i recommend is are the single speed transmission case conversion with the steel idler gear. The stock transmission is way heavy and makes it a pain in the neck to get to the drivetrain if you need to. The single speed trans is half the size - half the rotating mass and makes it super simple to work on. The plastic idlers dont last long with BL power. CVD's are a must. These BL systems make some serious power. Aluminum or Carbon Fibre chassis with extension (to keep wheelies down - well some what anyway). I know this seems like a lot of stuff to do, but because of the power output, these all become necessary at some point. You are going to want to make this as enjoyable as possible - it really is fun till some small weak plastic part puts the stop to the fun. Then it stinks waiting for the parts to fix. Im not trying to scare you - This is like everything else - you wanna play ( big power ) at some point your gonna pay - LOL. The main thing is have FUN with the maxx - and read these forums ( A LOT ) What you will learn from others here will save you lots of time and frustration. Enjoy....

Good points there from HotnCold. Personally, with my truck I chose to wait till componets broke and then upgrade them. Despite this, you will definately need cvd's, FLM diffs (supermaxx if you've got the cash) and I would definately reccomend the Gorillamaxx single speed conversion. Your better off getting your driveline bulletproof before you start upgrading suspension/chassis etc...
And as HotnCold said, refer to these forums alot. There are a lot of experienced and knowledgeable people on these forums.

I started mine the way maxxdude stated - fix it when it broke - but it didnt take long before i was running for a few minutes and then waiting for parts for fixing - LOL - I didnt have the patience for that anymore. Then i went off the deep end and started upgrading everything i could afford. ( Everything has been a blur ever since ):005: The drivetrain is a must IMO.

you have the hitec 5955 and your using the stock radio? you will burnout your new servo unless you get an aftermarket radio which can set the end points for the servos movement.

Thanks for all the input!

I am running the stock radio. I have read that is can cause problems with the servo.

What are FLM diffs? I have MIP CVDs installed. I am looking to upgrade to the gorilla maxx transmission. The investment is good batteries (IP 3800). The ones I have are pretty cheep 3000 NIHi cells. So those are the two purchases I am going to make, and the rest is replace as it breaks plan.

http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...LM18700&cat=31 that with the hb lightning diffs would be super strong. the flm hybrids incorperate the diff cases and the bulks for a lighter stronger system.

It wont just cause problems, your running the risk of burning out your servo, and those servos arent very cheap. sorry about repeating myself its because I dont want to see another post by you saying you've killed your your $115 servo.
