Some Q's on lst2 conversion - 10.14.2009, 09:43 AM

This will be my first conversion, my previous cars were rtr or bought post conversion. I got a roller decked out with rd logics for AU$200. A few things to fix as it was being sold as a parts car. Side note- nitro is gooey sticky sht.

Set up is planned to be- modded quark, 1521 1y, 5s lipo + 6s2p A123, geared to 40mph or more (depends).

Things I have already ordered- single speed spur mount, alu diff cups, ti-ni ring+spur for diffs, swaybars and wing.

Things I haven't- 59t ti-ni spur (and pinions), motor, motor mount, gear cover.

I haven't ordered the above list because I'm not overly keen on the dude racing motor mount. To me it just doesn't seem right to have so much motor hanging like that. I'm sure I would bend it with my 'driving skills'. So I wondered if a smooth can in a tekno mount could be fitted with a 59t spur. I reckon that would be more durable, but don't know if I could mount it close enough to the tranny. Of course, it needs to be mounted over the tranny mounting point so that's just a spacer of sorts, but because i don't have it in front of me, it's hard to picture in my head exactly how it will all come together.

So has anyone tried a different mount than the dude's? And is there anything I missed or should add to the list?

I used to have the Finedesign motormount, and it was ok. But it limited motorchoices and gearing. Know I have the dude motormount with the MMM combo, and I am not affraid of ruining it at all. It is one solid piece of alu, and the motor fits perfect on it.

Thanks for replying guys. Great job jas21373 I'm guessing you used the mugen wing mount because of the different shock towers?

I also have a medusa - 36-80-1600 with 2 of the medusa heatsinks to cover the whole motor. I was reluctant to use this motor because I don't want to be dissapointed in it's performance after running a 1515 in a rcm rc8t. A 1300w motor in a heavy lst2 and 1500w motor in a race truggy. I have a tendancy to gun it too, 160a spikes are a norm.

I forgot to ask about the diff oil too. That will need to be heavier than usual yeh? I've got some traxxas 30k, i'll see how that goes.

I have a foward only tranny on the way. I had pondered leaving the stock one in so I could utilize the high/low range to select bashing or speed runs, I think gearing for that would be difficult though.

jas your the guy who bought my e-maxx 3905 :) saw you on youtube.

Ok, the tdr mount and single speed adapter are top notch. I use both and would not hesitate to buy them both again. Nothing from tekno will fit next to the tranny.

You will have pinion issues with the 59t spur, stick with the 63t spur and you will not have clearance issues. I think a 25t pinion was the smallest that could be used with the 59t spur and the tdr motor mount. Go to the 63t and you can get down to a 22t pinion. Not alot of gearing options unless you go with the tdr colleted pinion adapter, as setscrew pinions only go up to 25t. Picking the correct motor/battery combo is very important.

I have the al cups and tin coated gears in my diffs. Never had an issue.

If you plan to run a medusa get the rcm bolt on front cover. The medusa motors have weak al front endbells and the screws strip very easily.

I run a 1521 1y on 6s lipo with a MMM. With 23/63 gearing, swapped single speed internal gears, and 6" tall tires I do about 40mph. 5s will not be enough, and I doubt the quark will like you much either. Unless you go with 2p on the a123 cells they will not work well either.

The Dude mount is Bomb, super tough and well engineered. You will NOT BEND it !

Using spur lower than 63 and a pinion 22T on down the mount will need a small mod to allow gearing varietys. It's a simple mod requireing a hack saw and metal file to allow the mount to be slid forward more. Takes 10 minutes and is super easy.
I'm running 64/18 with 4s and 5s and works great w/no heat issues with M.M.M.-2200kv

Another "the TDR mount is awesome" vote here.

You will not bend the mount, I guarantee. I highly recommend the colleted pinion adapter too because it just makes things much easier on the LST2.

Very I would say... The batts up front improve driveability, keeping the nose planted :)

I would think it would be better up FR as well . Not in the RR like the FD one . It's a lot eaiser to blip the throttle to bring up the FR end if it's to low with the battery up FR . Rather than having the lipo in the back as i have seen before .

These 18 nimh cells still lifted the front with no trouble in my truck... I definately recommend mounting further forward =)

I have been saving for some 6S lipos for a couple years now - i get sidetracked with other stuff WAY to easily -lmao-
Lehner 2230 11t - so much power even with the nimh - i really wanna run it on 7S (3S+4S in series hehehe) Havent driven this in a long time tho - got rid of the nimh packs and have no lipos to suit it -lol-

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the "TDR" mount, and where do you get it? Is "The Dude Mount" the same thing orr?

Those huge packs I (had) were CrampAmps packs 4s 8000mah and weighed 24oz's and the nose still reached for the sky if the slipper wasn't adjusted to perfection. Since I ditched them and run smaller 5000mah 4s I had to loosen the slipper all the more but the truck jumps and drives better as a result of less weight.
