What charge rate for the flat LiFe packs? -
11.17.2009, 06:55 PM
Just bought one of these: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...C_LiFePo4_Pack
And was wondering what rate I could charge it at? I am guessing it should handle 2c fine, and I am not sure if my 1210I will do more than 2c rates anyways. The charger is good for 180 watts, so 4c would be about the max on 2s.
Just wondering...

according to MA, you can charge at 15c....
They say a good mechanic only needs 2 tools - WD40 & Duct tape. If it moves, and its not supposed to, duct tape. If it doesn't move, and its supposed to, WD40.

It says you can charge at 5C. That's 22.5 amps.
I just got some of these myself. My charger won't go 5C either, but it will go 10 amps.
I charged them at 10 amps and they didn't seem to mind at all.

I have the same charger as you and use an Equinox balancer. My balancer can only handle up to 6 amps...so what balancer are you using to be able to handle 10amps?

LBA10 here (x2 for up to 12s), which is also made to interface with the 1210i. The Equinox is pretty much the older Hyperion LBA6 balancer.
SH Z-Car, Custom Crawler, 8s Savage, 12s XTM XLB 1/7 buggy, 4wd 4-link rear/IFS Pro4 truck, Custom Hyper 10 Short Course, Belt-Drive Mammoth ST 1/8 truggy, 4s 17.5 MM Pro HPI Blitz

Is there a real need to balance these? 2s with decent cells usually stay in balance pretty well? I had planned to not draw them very hard, 2 stock brushed motors and low gearing. Mainly bought the pack as LiFe really does not need a lvc.

The 2p cells will not benifit from balancing, as that only affects the series wired cells (or cell pairs in a 2p config). Hopefully the cells are matched well, and I will not be drawing them very hard. We will see, I will give them a test and keep track of the 1st few cycles.
