Kyosho Turbo Inferno to BL power

Has anyone here ever converted an Inferno to Brushless? Seems most people use Ofna buggies. I have a 1992-93 Turbo Inferno thats just collecting dust and is just begging for a BL conversion. thanks

Alot of people do the ofna cause of the plastic spur gear. If you have it convert it. It is no since in let it keep collecting the dust.

You should be able to find a Kyosho buggy converted to electric. A search may be easier, though.

Kyosho also offers a plastic spur for their mp sports buggy center differential.. Ofna is just easier to find a roller for ;)

I have converted my inferno into a BL... It's Real easy.........
Converted mp6 international to brushless.... Runs great...
Easy to get center plastic gears.. Parts availablity for turbo inferno not so easy..
But some of the parts fit almost exact with a Gs Storm buggy.
Mp5 or mp6
-Shock towers
-Shocks
-Bearings
-dog bones or cvd's
for turbo inferno you might have to make some adjustments.
I have owned all the Inferno's except the Kanai 1,2,3, and mp777 SP1 and Sp2.

why is the plastic spur gear so important?

plastic spurs dont ruin pinions

ok, so what type of motor is required for a BL buggy? I'd assume something weaker than what an E-maxx needs is ok. Is that a correct assumption?

Steel spur will be OK with a hardened pinion,a non hardened pinion won't last long with a steel spur.these aren't available from anywhere i know of but you could get some case hardening compound and a blow torch and have a go yourself.easier to make an adapter for a plastic spur usually.

I just checked my Inferno and scrapped it with a flathead screw driver, turns out it is plastic. So thats already taken care of. Whats my next step?

How do I choose a motor for this? Where can I get a motor mount or am I better off making my own? thanks

Well thats a good start.

You'll normally have to make a motor mount yourself.Some 1/4" aluminium angle makes a good sturdy mount.i think coldfusion were selling a universal mount for buggies,not sure though.

As for what system,it depends how fast you want to go and what kind of runtimes you're looking for and your budget(sky is the limit).12 cells and a 9920/7XL combo (around $300) should see 40mph i would think.

Hard to say,could peak over 100amps for brief moments,the 9920 would handle it easy.Let us know what you're prepared to spend and your goals and if you need to need to buy batteries and charger aswell.

For the motor mounting thing,there are other ways to mount motors other that motor plates.You could use 2 or 3 of the Bk motor mountings (see pic in this threadhttp://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1814) and make slots in the chassis for adjustment.I'm doing something similar at the moment for a project with a brass sleeve with mountings silver soldered on.
