Thoughts on these motors? - 12.04.2009, 11:10 PM

I know this is not your guys thing. But the design of the motors I think is really cool (and different)

The new V3 speed passion motors. I have a few, the world champion continues to win with them. They work good

But Im curious what you guys have to say about them (good or bad) of the idea. Compared to say solder tabs, or having the wire come right out of the can, or what ever. Do you think there is less resistance and all that?

Link to there site-

Pics. The whole range of motors look the same (3.5-21.5) And they have 8th scale motors to (also not really your guys kind of cheese. But design) I have no pics of them in my car as im to lazy to snap a pic

Rather like the Tenshock motors, or newer Lehners that cant be rewired for Delta or Wye (come one way or the other, not re-wireable). Nothing hugely amazing or new, but it does look different. Only concern would be a side impact on a chassis design like that, smack bang right into the end bell and posts, could damage the motor by forcing the posts into the windings (unlikely as it is).

The 1/8 stuff is curious though, having ratings from 3.5t to 6.5t- makes me think they are 380 rotors that spin fast, just like the hvmaxx stuff, needing to be geared low in order to generate any torque.

Beyond that, I think Lutach will tell you that all or most of the SP stuff is just rebadged HObbywing stuff that you can get much cheaper without the SP badge on it..

Yeah, side impacts happen. That is true. I dont know if it would affect the motor or not. So far from testing it has taken hits and doesnt seem to be affected.

Yeah it pretty much is like the novak stuff. I duno why they dont make a actual 8th scale motor, low KV, bigger rotors etc. Actually, they do go to 8.5, with is 1950. I guess they just need to ditch the tiny rotors and do a little upgrade to more what tekin offers?

Hobbywing doesnt have these style motors. I dont see them on there site. I run for speed passion, and lrp. Lrp speedos, and SP motors. Good combo. Much better quality compared to something like the trinity/epic duo series (which are fast) there just make poorly imo. The windings are always moving around and on a few motors end up touching the rotor and motor melts.

I havent seen the motors on there site. There esc's are the same with different software. But you can put SP software on a HW from what ive heard. but I dont run there esc's. No interest in them. But As I said the world champion (Mark Rheinard uses the full set up. So its not bad) I just prefer LRP.

Racing is a whole different world from bashing. Roar rules do suck IMO. So I guess we gotta make due with what we can. And I think these new sp motors are pretty good really.

HW makes SP's ESCs. Feigao makes SP's motors.
