A bit more runtime? - 03.16.2010, 06:25 AM

Hey Guys,

Been running my 8T leccy with a Hyperion 6500mah 4S pack, MMM and MM2200kv motor.

If I drop the LVC to 3.0v per cell then I might scrape a 20 minute final on the track but runtime is a concern!

The current setup i have toned right down on the ESC settings so it's manageable and driveable at our race track, so i'm wondering whether changing the motor to a Castleneu 1800kv might mean longer runtimes without a noticeable drop in performance??

Any guidance appreciated as always guys!

If it were a 1515 sized motor then I'd say that would probably do the trick, but being a 1518 motor Im not so sure...

The lower kv is a good idea for sure if you're having to tone things down presently, so I'd say look at either a true neu 1515 2d or 2.5d, or look into a tekin truggy motor in that ~1800kv range. Thats my feeling anyway, but I could be wrong..

Thanks SN, appreciate the advice but are the Tekin motors now viable....I've read too many posts about rotors failing?

So you say one of these might fit the bill to tone things down and get me more runtime using my existing 4S packs and MMM:

Neu-Castle 1518 1Y 1800kv motor is perfect for Monster trucks and offers more controllability and torque than the higher kv 2200.

Its the extra length and weight of the 1518 motor that makes me think it might be a tight squeeze, and be a bit more demanding that a shorter motor or the same kv. I believe the rotors on the tekins have been addressed pretty much so a new one should be fine vs one thats been on the shelf a while ( tekin will still warrenty a bad motor just like castle would so its not a biggie in that respect ).

I'd say look into the truggy sub-forum and see what other guys are running in similar setups to yours, more likely to get a better concensus of whats good or what overkill etc.

Thanks, i'll take a look, the 1518 should fit ok, as the current motor fits and there is some space behind it on the chassis on my 8Te.....

Maybe another option, or not?

Definately an option- as I understand it, the motors are better than the escs with regards to losi, so that works out alright- I think they are ~39mm though vs 36mm of most standard smooth cans, so that may or maynot affect mounting and meshing with small spurs/ pinions.
