to 'b' or not to 'b'.... - 03.11.2010, 05:19 PM

ok, i just have a bit of a question that likely leans toward the heli side, but what the heck.

i'm a huge castle fan. have been for the past few years. i owned probably 5 MM's, a MMM, multiple castle BEC's, and most recently i bought new HV-45's, HV-85's, and a castle Pro BEC. onto the question:

for all the car controllers, they've included bullet connectors. 2mm (i believe) for the MM's, and 6-6.5mm's for the MMM. yet my HV-45 and HV-85 didn't. even my Pro BEC didn't (to be fair, i'm sure most people solder the connectors to the esc leads. i use connectors to connect in series so i can disassemble easily). it's no big deal, but had to go out and buy 3 packs of 4mm connectors and a pack of 6.5mm castle bullet connectors.

castle, any insight into why they didn't/don't come with connectors, like their car counterparts? it seems in the heli/plane world that deans and bullets are standard motor/esc connectors just like in the car world...

We don't want to force anyone to a particular type of battery or motor connector. There are many types of acceptable connectors on the market and if we start putting one on the controller, it will look like favoritism; some people also prefer to direct solder so it would be a waste for them. The aircraft world is not as standardized as the car world, thank you ROAR.

We include motor connectors on the car products because we pair them with a motor; so we can include the male and females on both products so they are compatible out of the box. And most 1/10th scale ESC/motor manufacturers use 4mm and 3.5mm on 1/18th setups, there are a few exceptions, but it's a good rule of thumb. Again we don't include battery connectors to avoid favoritism.

Hope that makes some sense.

it... kind of makes sense. thanks, thomas.

i don't quite understand why you couldn't include bullet connectors (say, 4mm... and not solder them on, just in case someone wants to direct solder) where it attaches the esc to the brushless motors, but i guess it's a minor thing. at the end of the day, it's another thing to fart around with in the shop, which i like anyhow, lol
