My new toy, Caster F8T - 08.16.2009, 10:20 PM

Well, thanks to all you speedfreaks here at RCM I now caught the brushless fever real bad! I've only had my E-revo for a few weeks and it just wasn't enough.

Sooo... I just picked up this guy. It's a Caster F8T truggy. It is pretty loaded up with Diggity Designs carbon fiber parts and is still brand new. The guy who sold me it is actually a Caster factory team driver.

The truggy won't be up and running for awhile, since my RC budget is drained for the time being. But it will give me something to work on over the winter, and should be ready by spring. Going to be selling off a few other vehicles so I can line this one up with a decent set of electronics.

I know you guys probably don't care that much, but this is super exciting for me and I really wanted to share!!!!

Now for a few pics:

He has the fever, and it's terminal !!
Good score Jason, A nice prodject for the snow days.
Quit a few Guys on Nitrokillers aka "The Dick forum" have these caster buggys and truggys. You might consider taking a peak over there for set up info and such ?
Nicely painted stock body too !

I retired from RC, now life is all about guns and long range shooting.

Haven't worked on the truck for awhile, but decided to dig it out and get it set up since spring is fast approaching.

So far I've added the Slipperential (had to move batt trays back just a few mm for clearance), CVDs all around, and alloy rear uprights. Alloy center diff mounts are on their way here as well.

Once the Turnigy HV Titanium servo arrives (tomorrow) it will be going in there, then just need to decide what to put in for a brushless system.

Updated pics later today once I get home.

EDIT: Also, maybe a mod could move this over to the Truggy forum, not sure why I didn't post it there in the first place.

Put in the servo today. Also added some DE Racing front and rear skid plates. I was going to post some pics, but nothing really looks different so far from the original pics. Once I get all the electronics installed will be a more worthwhile time to post pics.

I'm thinking of maybe swapping the A-arms over to Mugen, but I think I'll try the Caster ones first to see how they hold up. It's nice being able to use MBX5T replacement parts though since not a lot of people stock Caster.

One question: Is it better to use extended hubs with zero-offset wheels, or standard hubs with 1/2"-offset wheels? Does it even make any difference? The F8T has standard hubs with 1/2"-offset wheels as stock, but I know they originally had the extended hubs with zero-offset wheels when they first came out (or maybe it was the nitro K8T).

Just got back from the first test runs, ran through 2 sets of packs. All I can say is I'm VERY impressed.

Geared for 40mph and running on short, dead grass the lipos got to about 100F, Mamba Monster fan only came on a few times very briefly, and the CC/Neu 2200kv didn't even break a sweat running no higher than 110F.

The Slipperential worked awesome too, it's especially helpful for someone like me who is still learning smooth throttle control. I'd hazard to say it's the best RC upgrade I've ever bought.

Really looking forward to getting some track time and dialing it in on the dirt. Thanks to all the people who've answered my questions and helped me get this baby going!
