How to remove bearing from the rear endbell ? - 04.28.2010, 04:17 PM

Hi all, I'm trying to change bearings on my Castle Neu 1520, but I'm facing a problem with the bearing on the rear endbell, where the bearing cannot be gently tapped out due to the shape of the endbell.

Any suggestion to solve the problem ? I've tried to heat the endbell, hoping to be able to remove the bearing but with no success.

Bye, Andrea.

Insert a center punch into the hole in the bearing, then tap it that way- should pop right out or fall to bits, but it'll come out all the same

Are the bearings bad, or are you just upgrading from the start?

Thanks, I'll try and let you know.

No, the stock bearings are ok, just upgrading to a pair of Boca Bearing hybrid (steel + ceramic) bearings

Bye, Andrea.

Done, and very ease !

I've put the rear endbell in a clamp, heating it using a heat gun and then, using a drill bit of 5mm diameter placed into the hole of the bearing, gently moved it up and down, left to right, till the bearing pop out.

Thanks, Andrea.

Just another question: I reassembled the motor and the shaft can be moved a little in the up-and-down direction, let me say of about 1mm.

For sure I've placed the spacers on the shaft, but still I've the dubt that I've missed some shims, allowing the shaft to be firmly into the can.

For Castle Neu owners: could you please check if the shaft can be moved as mine ?

I checked my Medusa and the shaft can be moved as well, so probably this is the right behaviour...

Bye, Andrea.

You're motor is fine. I asked the same question when I got my brand new motor last year. Castle said it's okay.

Castle Neu 1520 on 6S LiPo Powered Gmaxx (Nitro Killer)
Predator with OS .21TM
Supermaxx with Mach .26
Revo with OS .18TZ
Kyosho ST-RR Conversion
Ofna CR with Tekin ESC/Motor (2)

Same here, in my 1520 and 1515, i can push the rotor in the motor, and then the rotor comes back with magnet force on the front bearing. I always wondered if it don't apply too much strains ont the front bearing, but all seems OK.
Dont forget to glue your bearings ! My front bearing was unglued and moving in the front bell, the are glued stock.

Yes, I've glued the front, and this evening I'll check it to be sure it is firmly in place.

The stock bearing in the rear endbell wasn't glued (as far as I noticed), but in any case the bearing housing seems to be more tight that the front one, and in fact I've applied more pressure to insert the new bearing.

Bye, Andrea.
