Sensored ESC ? - 04.01.2010, 01:00 PM

I have a Losi 8ight-T that is waiting for a sensored system. Problem is, there seems to be a small pile of sensored ESC's out there. I'm really leaning towards a Tekin T8 motor, but right now I'm not too high on the RX8 due to some local reviews (a couple of guys raced them into the ground).

Anybody try the Castle's MM Pro? It's a 1/10th, but wondering if something like that would hold up with proper gearing and if the truggy kept the weight down.

I would say no. Like you said, it's a 1/10 scale ESC. If you wanted to run it in a full-size 8th scale truggy, you'd have to run 6s, low kv motor (~1300), geared very low, and probably use an external BEC.

IMO, the RX8 is a MUCH better choice. And if it blows, there's always the warranty.

I only have one RX8 ESC, and it hasn't seen a whole lot of use (maybe 4 packs' worth), but it's still fine.

Thanks for the welcome, lots of good stuff around here

Well, here's where I'm at on the RX8... Warranty isn't the greatest (120 days, although that is a whole summer's worth of trial). Sounds like those ESCs were ridden pretty hard and failed due to a little bouncing around as opposed to faulty electronics; Tekin honored the warranty. One of the users, who is a pretty solid racer, suggested that maybe cushioning the tray would've helped.

Anybody have another sensored ESC to check into?

Thats really it at the moment (the orange gear isn't there yet and I won't throw my money into LRP/Speedpassion) or just go for a Castle sesnorless combo..

The Novak HV Pro systems. I don't have any doubt that the hardware is quality made, but the motors have far too high kv ratings for 1/8th setups.

I have used the MMPro with great success in 1/8 buggies, and theyre only a couple of mild mods away from being a very good alternative. I take the fan wires out of the esc, and lengthen them to give constant flowing power from the receiver. That bring temps down to a down below 90f, then a novak 4-6s cap soldered to the power wires to be safe.

I have used this esc with a castle/neu 2650kv on 4s, with a hacker c50 13L on 5s, with a medusa 1600kv on 6s, and now the best setup, MMPro with tekin 1400kv, or 1350kv truggy on 6s.

The only time I had problems was in the medusa setup, thats when I did the fan mod, then it worked well.

I would still recommend trying out the RX8. There's not much worry abt the 120days warranty. If it's a known issue that other guys are experiencing. Tekin will still repair/replace yr unit even pass the 120 days.
Alternatively, you might try the Hobbywing Xerun. Between my Truggies & Buggies, I have used the RX8 & Xerun. My opinion is to give Tekin a try since you're in the U.S

Agreed! The Tekin guys have been really really good about sorting issues with regards to their systems.

Running mine still without issue (knocks on wood). ;)

MMpro works in a buggy, but I wouldn't try it in a Truggy. RX8 ESC is the shizzle and I have two them. I'm not nice to them either.
