HelpPlease! How do i get glue of my tyres and rims? - 07.02.2010, 05:33 AM

Hi everyone...

Ok so i want to restrap my tyres with gorilla tape and so i baked my tyres off the rim which worked very well compared to boiling.

BUT NOT THERE IS LEFT OVER GLUE EVERYWHERE!??? on the metal rims and tyres.

I cant use a dremel on the tyres as it will remove the rubber aswell, and i cant get the dremel between the groove on the rims.

Would acetone work? like nail polish? Would it be able to get chunks of glue off the wheel and lip of the tyre?
What would you all advise?

I put mine in Acetone, works fine - somewhat. The rubber in the tires became much more soft, and the foam became worthless...

i run aluminiumwheels so acetone should be fine with that... Im not sure how happy i will be with softer tyres though... But i need these glued by tonight, so acetone wont work as it takes too long. Ill def try it next time though.

I may put the tyres back in the oven. and when they are hot i should be able to rip the CA Glue off... right?

Try the search feature. Its a popular topic from way back as well.

Pretty sure Bondo even has a video on this....

i know all the usual methods of removing tyres from rims....

But my tyres are already removed, just have lots of glue stuck to the bead, which cannot comeoff.... I tried dremelling once before but it didnt work. I thought acetone would work but that supposedly takes ages and i am needing my tyres for tomorrow.

So i guess ill try the oven and get back to yall

I vote for acetone. Very easy: let soak overnight or at least a few hours and just peal of the acetone residue.

For stubborn glue on the rubber tires after baking, I've used needle-nose pliers to rip it off. I'm not saying it worked great, but it worked well enough so that I could re-glue.

Yeah, Doesn't make much sense that you have glue everywhere ?

The Tires; I'd maybe try reheating them till the CA gets soft then wipe them down with acetone on a rag while it's soft OR dremel sanding drum and a cut-off wheels to get in the places the drum can't reach. Yes you'll grind a little rubber but not a big if it's only a small amount.
The Rims: The CA should flake right off, try a small flat blade screw driver and chip it off.

tires Back in the oven and peel the glue off while still hot... it sometimes comes off all in one piece, Like a band-aid. Just get some gloves. Soemtimes it works sometimes not.

When that didnt work I just dremelled as well with a drum. GO SLOW And just be patient.
