Not sure what to do, Basher MT? -
07.27.2010, 09:46 PM
So i have finished my Revo 3.3 Carbon fiber brushless conversion, and now I'm wondering what exactly I should do. I built this truck with the mind of being solely a basher. So far it has performed well, with no major breakages, but I haven't really bashed it hard yet. I'm starting to re-think my choice of a basher. i've taken it to the track a few times, and it handles excellent, it is very lightweight (I can get it down to 9.5 lbs. with race tires and a 4s 40c 5000mah Turnigy lipo.). But As I've known before, but kept pushing back in my mind, is that the Revo is not as durable as other MTs, and is more suitable for racing (Though, I'm very confident that my truck is much more durable than the actual E-Revo Brushless Edition). So my question is, do I keep my Revo? Or do I try to sell it and get a new truck (or Trade). I used to have a nitro Muggy, and loved it. I'm only looking for BL vehicles, and at the moment I'm thinking of the Savag Flux, an E-Muggy, and a E-LST XXL. What do you think I should do?
Also, one other thing. If I should decide to get a truck that requires either two 2s lipos, or 2 3s lipos, is there anyone/place that I could send my Turnigy 4s lipos to be made into new smaller packs? Thanks
Here's my Conversion: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...747#post374747

I have heard both the LST platform and Savage platform are tank-like bashers, so you probably can't go wrong with either one. Just a matter of preference, I am a bit partial to the LST because I love the big shocks and chassis design, but you can also put those shocks on the Savage, and a lot of people prefer the TVP chassis design of the Savage.
I think BrushlessBoy16 has been repairing and reconfiguring some lipos for people lately.

LST FTW. Sell your current battery w/ the revo and get proper batter(y)ies.
(not that your batteries are bad, I just prefer bigger better batteries for bigger brushless bashers, besides, buying batteries beats boredom.

Hmm, anyone got some good links for the LST conversion parts?

The muggy is probably a better all around conversion.
1) Same drivetrain and suspension as the LST
2) Very easy to convert to brushless - just need one of mikes motor mounts and a battery tray.
3) Keep your extra Revo tie rods (especially the adjustable red ones). You can use those as chassis stiffeners.
4) You get the handling of a truggy and the ground clearance of a MT all in one.
If you do an LST, Losi also has their kit for it. General concensus is that you need to come up with a different battery tray for it to keep the front end down (although I have NOT read about anyone that actually used the kit as sold).

If you are just worried about durability, I wouldn't be so quick to toss off the Revo. Other than a few issues, they are pretty durable IMO. I've had one for 4 years and it has taken quite a beating, and most parts are cheap and plentiful. I've been tempted to sell it, but its cheap and reliable enough its not worth it.
OTOH, I don't drive it nearly as much as my other trucks (Savage inc) as the other trucks are bigger, drive over more stuff, and just end up being more fun.

Both are awesome trucks and can take a beating like you wouldn't believe. But I think JThiessen is right about drivebility. I only use my Flux for jumping, have a MBX6Te for racing, and it drives like a mob (like you clean you floors with), but it jumps like crazy :P
I've beaten the snot out of my Savage Flux and it's freakin' awesome:
Been jumping and bashing it quite a bit last sunday, here's a very small clip:

So far (14 months of bashing) I've broken 1 lower arm, a wheeliebar, one dogbone was a bit bent, and ofc the old model nitro diffs, I upgraded to Cenns (the BP's were out) and had zero issues.

Thanks for all the input. I have a 8T 2.0 and MBX6 buggy for racing, so this truck or whatever I get will be a sole basher. I really like the flux, and also the Muggy conversion (As I said before, I loved my muggy to death.) But I think untill I see some problems with the durability of this truck (haven't had any broken parts yet) I'll keep it. I really do like it's handling, but it does bottom out a bit much. Here's a direct quote from my build thread about it and taking it to the skatepark:
Woohooo! I love this setup! I took it to a very big skate park with a huge snake run and a real nice street course. Today, I must have gotten AT LEAST 45 minutes run time on each pack (Don't know how this is possible, other than again I mostly had it at about 1/3 throttle the whole time, occasionally a little more or less). I keep on think something is wrong, but I looked at the voltages of each pack and they were 14.107 Volts and 14.407 volts. I have my LVC set at 3.2 per cell, I think I'm going to go to 3.4 volts. But really, I mean this setup is amazing! The hottest the motor got was 120 degrees at the end of 2 packs, the ESC at 115 degrees, and the lipos at 109 degrees. No breakage the whole 90 minutes, except I once landed from 6 feet in the air on one tire, and both the pivot balls on each side popped out of the axle carrier, Easy fix, and I think it probably save either a broken wheel, a-arm, or part of the steering (Glad I have a titanium gear servo). Took 5 minutes to repair. I am really impressed with this truck, both in it's durability, and handling. Last night I unscrewed the rear shock shaft ends on the shokcs, and this, along with the silver and blue springs, really helped the truck not bottom out as much as it did before. I can't stop smiling![:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

As long as you are happy with you car stick with it.
As far as bottoming out goes play with stiffer springs / thicker oil (when still possible) or look for a better shock set (again if possible).
Do you happen to have any vids of you bashing the car ??

No not yet, my brother has our camera in Michigan. I have basicall the stiffest springs with 60 weight oil, and the highest shock angle available.

Another item to strongly consider if converting your muggy is Mikes Slipperential. I have it in mine, but have not had time to play with different settings on it yet (and I'm not certain that I'm a good enough driver to ever use it to its full potential - I just like padding Mikes pocket book).
