Fine Design RC - Largescale conversions? - 07.18.2011, 03:40 PM

http://www.finedesignrc.com/ct-duratrax.asp http://www.finedesignrc.com/ct-hpi-hotbodies-.asp

First is a Duratrax conversion, 2nd is a Baja. Has anyone heard any user reports on that site? It looks quite good ....

Fine Design is kinda like Integy. Dont waste your money. And what company in their right mind just now comes out with a conversion for something that was discontinued yrs ago?

Built Ford tough, with Chevy stuff.

My one and only experience with FD was enough. Took about 6 weeks to get the 2 battery trays, and the product quality was poor. Take a good look at the products, they are not designed well and lack any versatility.

Bleh, I thought there was something up; the site felt a bit awkward, ie; I couldn't quite understand why "Neu 4 pole 6hp" was listed on the Duraxtrax kit, when a Lehner motor was installed. And the Baja is credited with "Nemesis motor with 8 HP", yet a Neu motor is installed, same with the EB-5.

And statements like this...

"If horsepower is your desire, look no further then our own line of record setting motors! We carry the hottest NEU, Nemesis Gold, and Lehner motors. And to run these brushless beasts we stock Schulze, Castle and other Speed Controls."

"Our own line"??

"FDM carries a full line 1/8th scale gas conversion gears to 5mm shaft electric motors as well as a full assortment of Hardened Steel 1/8th and hard to find (if not impossible) 4mm and 5mm bore pinions for the Lehner 19 series, Nemesis Gold and Hacker L and XL Series, NEU and Aveox motors and many more. Search no more. We've got em!"

Were 4-5mm pinions rare or something?

And I got the impression that they tried to imply they made or "designed" (Or whatever.) the Nemesis Motor,

"Fine Designs Nemesis Gold 8hp brushless motor for 1/5 and 1/4 scale cars and trucks."

And how come I haven't heard of them before?

"Welcome to the home of the fastest electric R/C supplies on the planet. At Fine Design we're committed to carrying only the best equipment that racers demand! Team Fine Design Drivers have set more records then any other team combined! When it comes to fast, we know how to get there!"

Which ESC do you think they used on those conversions? They claim "180 amp Fine Design brushless esc 5-12S - 199$"

"The buggy tested at 44mph and ran 16 to 19 minutes with flip over wheelie power to spare. Buggy tests out at 58mph on 8S, 25C.... will run 73 mph on 10S, 40-50C rated packs and an astounding 88 MPH on 12S, 50C pack!"

"This full combo Fine Design has tested and tested again! This is faster and quicker then the nitro counterpart. I Guarantee it!"

Some of that might be true if it was still 2006. FD was part of the cutting edge at one point, but poor service, slow innovation, and a bad attitude have moved them to irrelevancy in the current market.

No worries on.the excitement. Thats why we are here :)

Is there no hug emoticon? Bahh. :p

I've been scouring the net for past week or more, and I haven't really found any current 1/5 brushless dedicated websites. There does not seem to be a lot of information on "brushless" in general, or am I just looking in the wrong places? Any info or links would be much appreciated. Also looking for hop up/aftermarket sites, anything to do with 1/8 brushless basically.

RCM is pretty much it for "correct" brushless info. Not much info out there for brushless 5th scale, as not many have done it. There are a few bl hpi baja on the baja forum. As far as 1/8 bl goes, this is the place for info. All the way back to the feigao/mtroniks setups, you will find it here.

I like RC_monster a lot, I'm just saying it would be nice with more sources of information on 1/5 brushless etc.

Anyways, do you have any suggestions for how I should proceed in looking for RC sites? ATM I've just been searching with Google, but I'd like more hop up websites.

Especially Fastlane Machine Savage (Extended arms especially.)r, if they combine with lots of other R/C items -- I've checked out the RCbros, RC-Emergency, etc, but their selections are very limited IIRC. I also went the FLM route by checking out tons of FLM Distributors as stated and linked on the FLM site.
