BL system setup, what's all needed - 03.28.2005, 11:17 PM

Hello,

Waiting on the G2 CF chassis to come in to begin my project.

What's needed/recommanded to setup a BL system?

I'm running 2, 6 cell GP3300 packs should I go to 7 cell GP3300's or GP3700's? Which set, 3300's or 3700's would work best on the Feigao brushless 540 8L or 9L motors? Do I need two motors or one to convert?

Is the Warrior 9918 Brushless Car Controller the way to go to match up with the Feigao motor?

Do I need a UBEC?

Do I need to upgrade my CVD's prior to coverting to BL? If so recommandation please.

Any other items I may want to upgrade prior to converting to BL?

On a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to setup a BL system? I have basic wiring skills.

Do I need the G2 Motor Mount to go BL or convert stock to G2 CF chassis?

Hope to get some positive info to make some purchases.

Thanks

Needed.. - 03.29.2005, 07:08 AM

First off welcome to the site. To set up your BL system you need a motor and speed controller. If your going to be running 6 cell packs then the warrior 9918 and 8L will be a good choice for you to run, if you are going to run 7 cell packs only then once again the warrior and a 9L would do ya just fine. Your 3300's or 3700's will both work equally well - the 37's will give ya a little more runtime due to the extra mah. A ubec would be a good idea but it is not absolutely necessary. The ubec ( in case you dont know ) eliminates the receiver battery for your servos. This helps when you wanna run and forgot to charge your receiver pack and have to wait for it to charge ( who likes waiting lol ). CVD's are a necessary upgrade for the most part but with some control on your part ( easy trigger finger ) I would say that you could enjoy the maxx for a little while till the stockers give way. As far as the wiring skills i would say that it is really quite easy - just 3 wires from the motor and 3 from the controller. If your soldering skills are ok - then you'll be o.k. Hope this helps ya - once you drive a BL maxx compared to the stocker - you'll be just like all of us here - AdDiCtEd to It... :)

Hows that "Hope and Change" working out for Ya???

Thanks HotnCold!

Couple more questions

What type of pinions and spurs will I need for the 8 or 9L?

What are the benefits from a 9L to an 8L visa virsa? Speed, run times, etc? One motor will do correct?

I don't think I have a receiver battery for my servos or do I? I'm stock except for bumpers, bulkhead braces and skidplates, all RPM.

If I go with the G2 CF chassis do I need the G2 motor mount to mount the motor/s?

Thanks again!

Right now your BEC is in your EVX so you dont need a receiver pack. I would say go with a BEC. I dont like the idea of having to worry about a extra pack.

The main difference between the 8L and 9L is the number of cells that you will be running. You may get a slightly longer runtime with the 8L on 12 cells and slighty more power with the 9L on 14 cells. If all of your current packs are 6 cells and you plan on staying with them get the 8L. I went with the 9L because before I was brushless all my packs were 7 cells.

You dont need to have the G2 motor mount but its recomenned.

Here are some links to other parts you will need to upgrade at some point after you go brushless.

SuperMaxx E-Maxx Hardened Steel Idler Kit

This is the center CVDs needed for the extended GMAxx chassis:
SuperMaxx Titanium Center Driveshaft Kit, EXT Electric Chassis

Maximizer 7075 Aluminum Diff Cups

Integy Aluminum Diff Case

Integy Gear Box Collar

The 9L runs well on 12 or 14 cells. It will have a slightly longer runtime than the 8L, given the same cell count. The 8L will be a touch faster. The controller has a BEC, and if you are only running 12 cells, the UBEC isn't necessary (nor is a receiver pack). The UBEc will supply a slightly higher voltage to the servos, however (slightly more speed and power to the servos).
The motor mount is not necessary, but it is a nice option and makes for a cleaner mount in my opinion. One motor and controller is more than enough power (*either motor).

Thanks everyone!

Looking forward to building a killer machine.

Very helpful info to know and have available!

I'll be converting to a BL system in the near future. I'm currently going to convert chassis and suspensions first then move on to BL.

Just trying to map out my options for future investments. The parts mentioned above, are they the way to go?

You guys ROCK!

The parts mentioned above are all worthy of your machine. I would get the chassis extension as well (vs. standard length).

This is what your speaking of correct?

Gorilla Maxx G2 chassis extension kit for traxxas emaxx

Do I need additional parts to add this once I get my CF chassis or just the parts mentioned above?

Just the parts mentioned above. A longer rear center driveshaft is the only change (which is mentioned above).

K, reviewing all this material, yeah I'm a little slow, lol

I take it I need two diff cups, front and rear and two diff cases, front and rear, do I need two collars or should I just get one of these kits instead? I think one kit will do both front and rear.

UE 7.5 Diff Kit 6 Spyder

or

7.5 Diff Kit 8 Sypder

What's your take? I was reading that you should change your gear ratio. Now I'm a little lost in the mix, sorry guys. Suggestions please.

I see the CF chassis is in. Mike, to convert the chassis I need the following correct?

G2 CF chassis

Gorilla Maxx G2 chassis extension kit, Mike, Do you carry the CF extension kit?

G2 Motor Mount

Supermaxx titanium center driveshaft kit

I figure I'll start there, lol....

Probably going to go Proline Powerstroke Performance Shock Kit, Mike do you carry this? If so, that added to the chassis convert project if recommanded.

RPM shock tower, wide a-arms and Steering Knuckles / Axle Carriers to keep it light as possible.

What's your take on this setup for chassis, shocks, towers, arms and knuckles?
