motor choice... - 08.21.2006, 08:11 AM

:032:
Hello all,
I need a new BL motor, and wondered what to buy...
I actually run a feigao C9L + 9920 controler. I want to go to lipo to increase runtimes, and i wonder what would be the good choice for me...
I only run 40series wheels/tires on my E-maxx, 14cells (4s lipo to come), and don't have the Strobe slipper (can't use spurs under 66T)...
What motor to choose, considering i want it to stay cool with the 8000mah maxamps packs??? And what is better between wiring packs in parallel or in serie? >>> I search for sthg as fast as my feigao 9L + 14 cells, but a 7xl will be less fast due to its rpm... (i can't go with 51T spur, the less i can use is 66T on the RRP slipper...)

Tnaks in advance for your help!

You can use the 51 t with some moding to fit the rrp slipper. It is bigger than the 32 pitch cause the tteth ar bigger on the spur. Bigger teeth means less likely to break off to. The 7xl is lower kv but has bigger rotor for little more umph and can pull a little taller gear with no problems.

okay so what is the pinion pitch to use with this 51 spur gear? (just to know if i will have to buy another complete range of pinions...)

i want to add that i search also for a motor that stay cool, but that is as fast as my too hot feigao 9L... Should a XL be cooler? I already have the RC-monster heatsink, and many cooling fans to use...

I have had alot better luck with the xl running cool than the l motors.
If you really want a good motor buy a higher end motor like the lmt. The 1940 will be alot cooler running and seems to run longer for higher efficency.
The neu motors may be a choice to. Just the cost is more.

51t is a modul(mod) 1 pitch.

with 4s Lipo, you can go 8xl. But like chc said. the lmt or neu motors are good.

ok, and what will be the ratio with the 8xl on 4s lipos? can i use my RRP slipper with it? 8XL is rated at 2080RPM... is this not too low with 4s lipos?

What you do is take the kv rating and times that by the volts of the batts. This will give you the rpm's. you want to stay around 30-40,000 for hte comfort zone.

Another thing about the gears, when the teeth get bigger, there will be less teeth for a spur the same size as one with more smaller teeth. The 51 is pretty close to a 66 in size I believe. Not sure. If I was you, I would go for 5S on a 9XL or 4S on a 8XL. 7XL will get kinda hot running for that long.

Are they going to have provisions for rear motor support? Even the XLs are kinda long to be held in by just the front plate IMO even though it seems to work fine. Just imagine the stresses a landing from a jump must create on the front screws with that much motor hanging off the back!

Oh, that's OK then. I was picturing something ~10mm longer than a Wanderer XL.
