Ok, so I hook up my UBEC finally and tested it out using the same exact configuration as before. It was working fine for about 1-2 minutes and then there was smoke. I removed the top as fast as possible only to find out my batteries were smoking badly and starting to explode. I unpluged the batteries right away and cooled them down. :013: :013: :013:

Anyway the problem is I don't know if it was the batteries which I have used before or if it was the UBEC from Koolflightsystems. I hooked up the black wire to the black deans connection and I hooked up the red wire to the red deans connection on the other battery. Then I pluged in the receiver connection. I am using two batteries in series. HELP - WHAT DO I DO? :007: :007: :007:

I don't want this problem to continue and more importantly i don't want to burn up any more batteries or anything else on the E-Revo for that matter. :026: :026: :026:

Equiptment - 20150 BK speed controller and lehner 1950/6 hi amp. Two six packs of gp3300 batteries in series.

Sounds like your batteries just have had it or something...Have a picture? By the way, did you have the UBEC soldered to the Deans on the battery connector? Or the battery connectors on the ESC? ESC is best...

Don't have a picture because I seperated the batteries since I can't use them again and I removed the metal deans connectors for future use.

The UBEC is soldered to the Deans connections on the battery not the ESC. According to the EBEC instruction sheet it says to the deans.

Also, some of the shrink wrap pulled away on the UBEC. I assume it is from the overheating problem but there was no signs of over heating on the UBEC. The shrink wrap is not burnt and I touched the UBEC and it wasn't hot.

Ok, first thing I would do is solder the + and the - of the UBEC to the + on the ESC and the - on the ESC. It makes it easier to change batteries, etc...Not sure about the batteries though..Maybe they touched the chassis?

One thing I didn't make clear is that the ESC is shrink wrapped so it is almost inpossible to solder the + and - to the ESC. However, the + and - are soldered to the deans but on the ESC sides not the battery sides.

As far as the batteries touching the chassis I had a sparking problem when I first got it and I shrink wrapped one set of batteries and didn't have the sparks anymore. The batteries I was using when I had this problem were not sprink wrapped and there was definately burned sections on the blue foam. I removed it all and was going to call Gorilla Maxx tommorrow to get another set of blue pads.

What is your take on the shrink wrap having two holes in it after the first run with it? Just a reminder the UBEC was not hot to the touch, however the batteries I could not touch at all.

Where was the UBEC? I understand where you have it soldered now, its just that they way you said it, it sounded like you had it soldered to the + and - on the Deans on the battery packs, not the Deans on the battery side of the ESC. Maybe the fact that the battery grounded out on the chassis shorted the UBEC...Then again, if there was a slice or rip in the heat shrink, it would shrink up and look like it hot really hot in one area...

Here is some photos.
The first photo is the red UBEC wire connected to the red ESC side of the deans connection.
The second photo is the black UBEC wire connected to the black ESC side of the deans connection.
The third photo shows the two holes in the UBEC that arrived after the first time using it.

As far as where the BEC was located it was on a custom alum. plate that I made and I used servo tape to hold it in place. Third photo shows the place.

The set that fried was not shrink wrapped. If you look in the picture you can see the burnes on the chassis.

By the way, how do you equalize gp3300 to .9 volts on a discharge tray when the batteries are shrink wraped.

Is that chassis aluminum? looks like the batterires shorted on the chassis... not good.

With side-by-side packs and metal chassis, you have to prevent the tabs from touching the metal.

Yeah, you need to shrink wrap your packs. that was a spendy mistake.

I had the very same issue.

I used my koolflight ubec, ran it for about 10-15 times, and the next time i connected it, it had a serious error. Hot, smoke melting heatshrink.. *on the very same spot) unplugged it, and hooked it up again, and now it's still going strong.. I am still using it, and it didn't heat up as badly.

Weird stuff..

How do I check all of the components on the truck individually before trying to use it again? I do not want to short anything else out based on the damage I already did.

Equiptment is as follows:
Spectrum DX3
BK 20150
Lehner 1950/6 Hi Amp
JR Radio 9000T
Kool Flight Systems UBEC

I already throughout the batteries after they exploded, next time I'll use my shrink wrapped set.

Also, how do I equalize the batteries to .9 Volts before recharging if it is shrink wrapped.
