I know the feeling! That's why my project wound up being spread out over a year and a half! I hope to finish it in the next month or so.

For 2 of my cars, I got lucky. Brand new HPI MT2 18SS with $50 receiver and $130 in servos for $40, which my parents paid (I got it for X-Mas). New-looking TC4 with servo for $5 ($10 including the body), and only needed $27 in parts to get running. I got my Revo rolling chassis a while ago for $200, and had to replace about $30 worth of parts. The rest of the parts I made myself.
Things get cheaper when you make them yourself. Since I tend to have a tight budget (working 12 hours/week at $6.75, and half gets put in the bank), I do whatever I can to save money.

I just sold off my Losi stadium truck and a bunch of other stuff to help fund my new brushless system.
I'll be ordering a 9920/8XL/UBEC or a 9920/1940-8/UBEC as soon as I can make up my mind on the motor. If I went 8xl instead of the Lehner I'd have enough $$ to by an eagletree data aquisition system too. Very tempting!

How'd you manage that! I'm jealous!
My wife could care less about my drag racing and RC interests! (Although I could care less about her tennis interests, so maybe it works out?)

And she didn't break it either! All she did was give me the radio, and we got in the car afterwards and said...."i want one"! so i built her a stock, then she said it was not fast enough!

Ah yes, stuff dreams are made of!
My wife rode in my Supercharged Mustang and her response was.....why do you need so much power? You can only go 60 on the highway anyway! And it gives me a headache! It's too loud!
And she considers the RC's to be "toys" ...."toys"? "toys"? BLASPHEMY!
But in all fairness she did give me a REVO3.3 for my birthday and a few years back she gave me a founders membership & season tickets to the NASCAR track in Joliet Illinois aka "Chicagoland Speedway" so she still gets a "thumbs up", she's cool but does not appreciate the same things.....
OH, and she got a bit crazy when my father gave me the 48" replica of a 48' Chris Craft yacht we built together years ago! Is that a boat? Why do you have that? Is it staying? WHY?
LOL
It's on display in my home office (powered by a 1.5hp watercooled motor)
anyway....
