I have been in the nitro arena for quite some time and I am intrigued by all this new electric stuff. So I nabbed a gorillamaxx electric conversion chassis.
Quite an ambitious project here, but I am looking for high speed and some nice run time to rival the old nitro version of my Revo.
So far I am thinking of
MGM Compro 160 amp, 24 cell brushless car controller
Neu 1515 1.5d/F Sensorless Brushless Motor
Apache 4s 14.8v 3700mah LiPo Battery Pack
I know the MGM will support up to 8S lipo's, but does it have to be 8s built into one pack, or can I do the old solder on extra leads to the controller and connect up 2 4s lipo's? I know the resistances will increase a bit between batteries and controller. But what else would this do.. if it can even be done at all?
Would it be best to just use a single 8s pack?
I am looking for uber speed from this thing and a decent run time.. at least 10 minutes.
Suggestions, comments or criticism (constructive please) would be appreciated.
You can't use the Neu 1.5d/F on 8S, it would run hot. Too hot, and too high in RPM. a better choice would be a Lehner motor (non high-amp), if you're planning on using it on 4 and 8S. The Lehner motors can be configured like a Y and a W wind, which results in a different KV value; lets say in standard configuration it runs 2200rpm/V; in a star configuration (which can be done with the use of a soldering iron) the motor is 2200/1.73=1271 rpm/V.
And yes, it is as easy as that. you can use all different kind of connections to make an 8S out of 2 4S packs. It doesn't need to be 1 8S pack.
With 4S and the Neu motor you can kick nitro's butt.
