5700 best for me? -
02.01.2007, 01:07 PM
As some of you guys may know I've been looking at a BL system for some time now and I think I am ready to make a purchase. Unless you guys reccomend otherwise. The truck is my old Traxxas Rustler, going to drop the Mamba Max 5700 motor/esc combo into her and start off with just some 6-8 cell packs, then later move up to Lipos. I picked up a SuperBrain 989 charger this past Christmas so I am covered in that department. Does anyone happen to know of a good gearing setup for this? Basically I just want this to go fast, really really fast lol. But it HAS to be reliable.... Thanks guys...

I think it's a great combo! Can't beat the pricing either.
You can also consider upgrading the motor at some point to a Lehner or NEU (more wind choices, better construction, etc.)

You should be fine. You may want to ask Metal man for tranny solutions, gearing and all that. I believe he has a rusty and could be very helpful.

Do you have any vids of that? And who makes that chassis, any problems with it? How do you like it?

Welcome! The chassis is the FLM chassis. I was more curious of the shocks he was using. Looks very nice man, very clean and well done!

How durable is that chassis? Is it worth picking up?

I personally do not own one, but if I had a rusty, I would definately get one.

Thanks, Yeah, It's an FLM chassis. I haven't gotten much run time in since the install due to lovely NY winters but it is very well made and seems like it should hold up quite well.
I don't have any vids of the truck, as soon as the weather breaks I hope to get some. As far as the motor/esc combo. I can't recommend them enough (I just ordered a second for another rusty I'm doing) as said the only issue was some minor glitching on slow starts and that went away as soon as I moved the receiver.
The shocks are duratrax evaders with hard green duratrax springs. They work pretty well although they do leak a little. I have a new set of ST shocks coming from RCBros that look to be real nice. They should be in today so we'll see.

The 989 can do up to 8s i believe, so you are set. Some esc's have a cut off you can set for lipo, otherwise, if not, you need a li saver car version lvc, which Mike carries. Oh, and you would want a balancer of course.
