I been reading and learning alot from this forum. I kinda got started off on the wrong foot with this brushless stuff but my mostly finished project came out pretty descent. Have'nt had her on a track yet, but she rips in the street.
Please pray for sunshine in South Texas...........
I started to throw a P5 in it the first night I had it home.............but I came to my senses. After experiencing the power and smoothness of the "Quark" there is absolutely no question; I AM DONE WITH NITRO!
look pretty good, now you just have to give us some more info. what motor is that? what battery you running? I am thinking of doing the same thing but i am trying to hold off until the new esc's come out (tekin r1-mt, mmm).
Welcome. I recently found a track nearby and was looking for a truck to race.I would like to get an 8,t roller and instead of buying an engine by a motor lol. but I think that it might be to expensive. Well nice project very clean from what I see.
I'm in Corpus Christi. We have a Track(Starcar) but have been suffering through poor turnouts for a while. I think we're on an upswing though; just need the weather to cooperate. I occationally travel to Toys for Big Boys in S.A. and Gears club in the Valley. Been wanting to make it to Ncontrol in Austin as well as Mike's and K&M in H-town but I seem to always be short on time and money.
I did originally purchase a FD conversion but after dealing with some issues before I even had my hands on the 8ight-t and gaining some valueable info on this forum I purchased the Quark speed control on E-bay(for $200), which ironically I got from Jeff Hautzinger who must be the same individual who designed the heatsink I got from Mike. If not, really wierd coincidence. The motor mounts and battery tray actually work really well for this application. Specially if you consider that I wanted as little fabrication work as possible. The only mod required was the removal of the rear brake and some trimming on the rear diff. mount. Once I figured out I really did'nt need the mechanical brake w/the Quark(which I had read, but found hard to believe), I removed the the front bakes and all that went with them. I will be limited to a 12, 13, or 14 tooth pinion though. As far as the motor goes, the jury is still out and only time will tell. At least once I get someone to clock my top speed I'll finally be able to figure out what the kv is. Then I can accurately purchase a motor closer to the correct kv for my required top speed which is, of coarse, slightly faster than the fastest nitro on the track....................?
welcome Cahpito. can you post a pic with a bit more resolution or a link? I can't see the details!
My original pictures are too big and I'm not well educated on how to resize them. I will try to get something with more detail up but it will probably be a couple of days............Hectic schedule lately!
Chapito, Jeff is a member here (jhautz) and originally designed and machined the heatsink for use with one of his Quark controllers, then Mike started producing them. I'm assuming he sold one of his Quarks...
