The Most Bang for the Buck (servo) - 04.09.2007, 04:45 PM

My friend has asked me to ask you this question because he know how knowlagable you guys are about this stuff. What is the most effecient, highest torque, best servo for an emaxx under 55 bucks. Also is it possable to get a servo for this much that turns the wheels on the ground. thanks

The Bluebird servos have pretty good torque and speed ratings, and are even cheaper than that, but you MUST set the EPA on your radio so they don't try to force against a mechanically limited steering assy. Personally, I would just save a few extra bucks and get a good servo and not have to worry about it.

I just bought that one, I HOPE it's a decent one. I don't see a point in spending $150 for a servo, IMO.

If I am not mistaken, that is the BlueBird servo I was talking about. It works great as long as you set your EPA right. If you don't, you WILL burn it out. Unless of course, it was redesigned so it protects itself - it's been about 2 years since I used one. This is what happened to mine (and many others) because I didn't set the EPA correctly:

Again, they might have updated the design by now...

Well, if you get an inexpensive servo and burn it out, then have to get another; you've spent as much as it would have cost you if you just got a good one in the first place. For middle of the road, I've liked the JR Z650. Just a good servo. What I usually run for steering on larger vehicles (1/8 scale) are the JR Z9000s. I run an S in my buggy and a T in my truggy. Neither have ever let me down, but they are around $100 each.

whats wrong with tower pro servos. they are metal geared, 200oz ish servo for like $25. we use them for the very high torque steering demand for rc rock crawlers. ive heard great things about them.

I've had good luck with the blue bird 620MG and the cirrus cs-70, the latter is a 200 in-oz, metal gears and only 35bucks at my local planeshop

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

For quite a while I used the Blue Bird BMS-620mg servo. I actually burned out something like 6 of them, but each time I would buy the plastic gear version for like $18 and swap the metal gears from the burned out servo into that. No longer will I buy any Blue Bird servos, but my Dark Impact does have a BMS-621mg that it's had for quite some time now. I've gone to high-end servos. My Revo runs a Hitec 5955TG, which I got brand new for $75. With my employee discount, I can get them new for only a few dollars more.

Has anyone tried the servo i bought? The BMS 660MG? It's 194 torque, and .15 sec speed. HOw do they hold up to a MAXX?

I have several high end servos... Airtronics, Hitec, and now Ace brand.... I have had good luck with all of them, even the Hitec 925 and 945 Digitals.

I also have one of the Bluebird 660MG from RCM. I would say the Bluebirds are easily the best servos under $40. It has good torque but it's quite a bit slower than the more expensive ones... but still faster than a standard servo. There are even cheaper Bluebirds too, with similar specs...

Last week I got a couple of the Ace servos that everyone loves...
Ace 1313 $80 (.13 and +170oz)
Ace 1015 $92 (.10 and +200oz)
Many guys say they are better than the specs too... feel like a $115 servo...

Then just last night I found the 1313 for $65 at Ultimate Hobbies. If that is not a typo... I would say get one of those!!! Free ship over $100 too...

You can also find the $100+ servos used for around half price. I got my 359 for $60 used... but in like new condition. I could have got a JR 9000T for $60 a while back form a local racer. I should have bought it... those are incredible high-torque servos.

I would compare the 660MG to my other servos, but I gave it to my brother in law. I never did compare side by side with other servos. I can say it felt a bit slow to me, but most of my servos are rated around .10 and faster.

I ran the 660 in my Jammin CRT until a couple weeks ago, and it did fine... brought home a 2nd place trophy with it :)... and it's still working like new.

I only got the Z9000T for my Muggy because it had those god awful 40 series tires on it. With its 300oz or so of torque, it made short work of turning the wheels, whether I was standing still or not.

A friend of mine just got a couple of the ace servos and they seem really nice. I'm going to try a couple myself, when the need arises.

Well .15 sec is good enough for me, just bashing for now. I am going to see if I can race in Calgary races.
