Feigao 9l warrior 7018 e-maxx -
04.07.2007, 11:21 PM
Hi guys first post!
Im am building up an e-maxx for some fun racing (just want to get it running on the track at this stage and learn to drive, not be ultra competative)
I have that motor/esc combo on its way and im wondering if anyone can tell me if it will work and how many cells i can run. I beleive the 7018 may be a bit underpowered but its what i have and i cant afford to change at the moment.
Will this esc be ok with a fan and small pinion or will it fry on 12 cells? (ib4200wc)
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!
That ESC is capable of 70A and 18 cells (at 1.2v/cell). Personally, I'd go with a 9XL and run it on 14 or 16 cells. For 12 cells, you might want an 8XL for the added speed. But then the 7018 might be too small current-wise and you'd probably be better of stepping up to the 9920. If you plan on sticking with 12 cells, I would get the Mamba Max controller and the 8 or 9XL motor.

To me, it doesn't seem like the 7018 will be able to handle very few motors at 12 cells. Do you HAVE to run 12 cells? If you could run 14, preferably 16 cells like Brian said, then you can use a 10L, or 9XL, something like that.
Can you change your cell count?

Thanks guys.
The cell count is flexable although i would prefer to run 12 or even 10. At 12 cells it should so about 35000 which is nice and safe for the motor, it will just be an issue of if i smoke the esc. Guess i will have to try and see.

What kind of speed are we talking here? That is the most important thing, exponentially more power for speed.
I just thought of the Basic XL motors, they should be good with a 7018, can anyone support this? :032:

Well i guess speed isnt so important because I will be racing on a short track with only 1 straight. More important will be punch to clear the jumps. 30mph would be heaps.

How heavy is your truck? Is it stock or does it have a bunch of aluminum on it. What I'd be concerned about is the motor. The 9L in a truck might get too hot. Many have gone to the 7XL for that reason, but the 7XL pulls more current.
I'm running an 8L in my relatively light buggy and haven't had any problems with heat. I like it better than running the 7XL because I find that it has more zip.
Taking a guess, I'd say that if your truck weights more than 10lbs or so, I'd say go with the XL motor and get an esc that can handle it. The Mamba Max does well on anything up to 4S lipo, or the nimh equivalent in voltage and they are inexpensive.

Its standard at the moment with mmg995 steering servo (nice) though i have a steel idler gear to go in, ali rear bulks, chassis brace, skids to go in. Also proline wheels and steering saver setup on the way. And a ubec on the way.
At the moment i have a novak ss5800 with 12/66 which runs suprisingliy well, if the new combo cant work i will try the novak with 7 cells which should be enough power and very light but temps will be a worry again.
Problem is thats already 2 brushless setups ive bought and the resale value will be very low if i need to change again.

Well you should have came here first. Then you would have only had to buy 1. :p Personally, I would go with 14 or 16 cells with the 7020 and a 9XL. That shouldn't pull to many amps and should be safe. The 9L will pull a good bit of amps and make the controller a little hot.

WOOOOOOOOOTT!!!!!!
Sorry for that but im very excited by the major score i just discovered!
My feigao 9l and warrior 7018 just arrived today and after inspecting the warrior i noticed it has the large label with 7018 etc but also a small label with 9918!
This reminded me a s sticky i had read here so i rechecked and BINGO, i have 4 caps :)
Looks like i finally had a win and this esc will be just fine for the maxx :)

you mean to say it is a 9918 and not a 7018? Was there a batch mix-up or something? That sounds like a great deal to me as it's $40 cheaper!
