IDEAS for a 1/10 brushless project -
04.16.2007, 09:32 PM
OK guys it will be racing time soon and my maxx will not be able to make it in time to race so i want something to race. I will be racing street and i am looking for something to race that is a 1/10 buggy, truck, or maybe but probably not a car. I want to use the mamba maxx setup with either 7700 or 6900 motor. i will be probably running stick packs and eventually moving up to cells but no lipo. I want something durable, fast, relabel(can handle BL well), and race able. I want to stay around 500 with motor ESC and vehicle so about 250 to 275 for a kit then. I was thinking about the losi xxx-4 because i really believe that a 4WD car would be easer to control with all the big BL power. i would prefer 4WD but if you think 4WD would be good to. What do you think anybody used a xxx-4 or have any ideas on a project car to race street with.
Thanks

If you weren't stuck on exactly 1/10 scale, you could do a CRT.5. :) Lower it a little and put some street tires on it and it would be a bad little machine. The construction is well built and uses 8th scale setup and some parts.
Then again, it probably would exceed your budget - but not by much...

I dont know about the xxx-4 its belt drive im not shure it will handle bl. If you like a 4wd i'd say a kyosho laser. Or you can use a 2wd.

i would like to do one Brian because i love the platform. But it will be i little to much work (even though it is not much) for me because i want something i can just build and drop a Brushless in. I also wanted to run cells and i don't think i can fit some cells in the .5. maybe if i could do minimal mods drop in a mm and a custom 6cell pack and i would be half way simple without going over about 550 i might do it but probably not this time. I think i will come back to that project i am just looking for something fast and reliable to do right away to get racing. thanks anyway.

I know it will fit a 6 cell pack because I designed my tray to use 2s/3s lipo or 6 cells. Mike will soon (hopefully) offer a drop-in mount so it's just a matter of making a battery tray. The CRT.5 is ~$250, servo (225MG) about $30, and the MM system is around $215. That's pretty close to your budget provided you already have the radio. But, yeah, I understand you want something quick. Stay tuned as I'm sure others will offer suggestions.

Well, the battery tray obviously. :) Then, maybe the ESC mount, but I think it can be mounted directly to the CD top plate - or make a simple flat piece of metal and put both the rx and ESC on it like I did. If you don't want to wait for the motor mount, you could use the 46T spur with a little chassis modifications, or use a hardened steel pinion with the stock spur with no chassis mods. No matter what, there'll be some kind of modification to do...
Are you looking for a 4WD vehicle that is sturdy, reliable, and needs no mods whatsoever; just drop cells in and the MM and go? If so, I don't know of anything like that...

i know there will be mods but i was reading you thread about the ctr.5 and i saw you messing with the outdrives and the diff gears not fitting right. i am prepared to make or have a motor mount made and make my own batt box and esc mounted but are these little mods all what is needed it this basically a less complex nitro to brushless

I was trying to use the Kyosho spur and to do that, it needed some mods or some special parts. Riceman (IIRC) lengthened his CD mount holes in the chassis a little and was able to use the spur. I didn't want to mod the chassis, so I ended up using the stock steel spur. It was easier all the way around. Plus, eventually, I will probably use Mike's mount when it comes out and didn't want to mod parts without knowing what his will entail. The only chassis mod I did was to drill one 3mm hole for the battery tray; everything else used what was already there.

I know this is a farfetched idea for anyone around here but i think i want to run nitro for a while untill i want to convert it. Can i buy this .5 rtr(dont think so) and if not what servos and motor do you reccomend. and what size servos.
One last question what is the appprox. price of this car nitro with all motor and kit.

Well, if you MUST go to the dark side (:)), you could probably get a new Traxxas 2.5 off ebay for pretty cheap (~$90) since everything seems to be moving over to the 3.3. I believe the CRT.5 is meant to run a .12 for race legality, so I guess it depends if you are really going to race. I really don't know much about Nitro prices as that is old stuff. ;)
The servos will have to be mini ones, like the Hitec HS225MG - which is ~$30. There are others you can use I'm sure, but that seems to be a popular one since it is plenty strong (67 oz-in) and fast ( 0.1sec IIRC) for 1/12 scale uses.
