DX2.0 sucks....... - 04.16.2008, 11:40 PM

Well I had some major issues with my TQ3 and Neu 1521 on my emaxx and decided to swap to a 2.4 system. Went with the DX2.0 and my range is much better then the TQ was, but still sucks when I get above 8S. I thought the 2.4's were immune to RF, or at least somewhat, but its a direct problem, since as I go up in voltage my range becomes less. This sucks.....does anybody know if a Futaba 3PM will work better??? I am starting to think the CC HV110 puts out ALOT of RF. I wonder if the HV Turnigy on 8S puts out as my RF. If not I'm getting rid of this HV110 and swapping the Turnigy in.

I have seen alot of problems with spectrum systems, glitching and runaways. I run a futaba 3pm on ch72 and have had very few problems. I did have a few cheap becs produce glitching, but only when directly under power lines?!

I have had alot of success with futaba radio gear and would recommend it. I have a 2pl and a 3pm and both work flawlessly, even with broken antenna wires.

Lincpimp - You stay away from my neighborhood when I run my car! We use the same radio and channel.

Yeah I think an FM radio will work much better. Or you could try wrapping aluminum foil around the HV-110 to block the RF. Just be careful where you wrap it!

I would suspect the BEC. What one are you using, and do you have another (or receiver pack) to try.

I've tried a battery pack and I have tried the CC BEC. I now switched to the Hercules BEC and its awesome, but didn't help any as far as range.

I'm using the Spektrum on my Futaba 3PK, and it works great.. no interference from BEC, ESC or anyting else... except my spektrum doesn't like working in boats.... I never had any glitching problems with the original 3PK either..

I am looking at the 3PM 2.4 now. But I think I am going to try the other ESC first.

Is you antenna near any metal/CF parts? I find mine doe not like being too close to metal parts (chassis) or my motor wires. Heli's often have similar problems. I'm using the DX3.

Mine is not near anything that may cause any interference. I know its directly related to the ESC though, cause as the voltage climbs the range gets worse, so its definitely RF interference.

I have a 3pm 2.4 using 12s on the HV Turnigy with the ultimate ubec. The antenna is laid flat in the middle of my truck and I dont have any problems with it glitching. I dont have any problems with distance either.

I was at the LHS today looking for a radio for my E Revo, I am looking at either the Futaba 3PM FAAST 2.4 or the Airtronics spreadspectrum 2.4. I did see the Spektrum DX2.0 that you had the bad expierence with, I remembered the post and when I saw the radio in the case I thought "theres the radio that sucks"

Even though Spektrum is 2.4GHz, you can still have problems if the antenna or throttle cable is too close to the high current wires (power or motor wires, especially the motor wires). It's not so much interference, but RF "wash-out"...enough to make the receiver lose some of the data packets.

And FWIW, I've had a brand-new receiver with an intermittent broken antenna. Would work fine, then just stop working. Had to replace the wire with one of the EXACT same length (very important). Worked great after that.

My main question is, would going to the Futaba cure the problem though??? Or am I pissing into the wind still.....

The answer is: maybe.

Seriously though, it depends. If the problem lies with the radio itself being too sensitive or the noise filtering is inadequate, then yeah, another radio may help. But if the problem lies with the setup, then another radio probably won't work (or work just a little better).

I would try looking at your wiring setup and maybe moving your antenna first.

Or, take your vehicle to the LHS, tell them your problem, and see if they will let you try another setup. The guys behind the counter probably have all sorts of systems in their vehicles and might let you try one out there.

You have to remember that radios are receiving signals in the milli-watt range, while the brushless systems are drawing hundreds of watts. So, signal wash out is possible.

I think its the HV110 that puts out some serious noise. If I swap to a BK9920 with a XL motor and run the same 6S on it, I get tons better reception. So its directly related to noise output of the ESC.....hmm

I think I will try the Turnigy and see if it puts out less noise.
