1/8th scale motor mounts - 05.06.2007, 09:15 PM

Does anyone make a premade mount right now for brushless conversions in an 1/8th scale? (9.5 and hyper 8) Before i go making my own i was wondering if there was anything out there to buy off the shelf.

I like Metalman's idea on his hyper 8 with the support for the rear endbell and plan on doing something similar if i make my own so i dont have any endbell problems.

Mike has a couple you can use. There is the one Metal Man has, and Mike made mine (see pic below). Depends on how you want your truck set up...

EDIT: wow, that picture was big. Sorry about that. Here is a link to it instead...

Wow.. i like the way that one mounts. he must do that on a mill? Nice work too.

We ended up making something out of an existing motor mount for a plane.. Its not super pretty but seems to be working ok so far. It is separate from the center diff mount and for testing we only had it bolted in two points on the chassis. I think either the mount walked, or there was a little flex. It was either that or the harshness of the motor brakes that killed the spur gear in 5 minutes.

Im hooked though. The power is twice what i expected. Cant wait to get this setup bulletproof so it can receive the bashing it deserves. :)

Ill definitely be PM'ing him. I want to make sure i know what i want first. :) i like that top mount since ill be running 2 2s lipo packs in series, but the motor being high in the air makes me worried that it will roll easier. Im kicking around the idea of running the stock brakes too if i nail that down as the cause of my eaten up spur gear.

Two of us here did the conversion this week. One 9.5 and one hyper 8 running the Fiago 8xl from here and the Mabma Maxx. Holy fast!!!

Mighty: Yeah, by "Mike" I meant the site owner. Sorry, I just assume everyone knows Mike. :) Anyway, it was done on a CNC.

The only problem with making the motor mount seperate from the diff mount is that there usually is some chassis flex, and when that happens, the mesh changes. When you make a diff mount with an integrated motor mount, the mesh stays consistent, which is VERY important for the life of the spurs! But, if that is working for you, by all means keep on running it!

BrianG,
do you have any chassis flexing issues with that motor mount?
I e-mailed Mike about your motor mount. Need one for a kyosho kanai2.
Still waiting for a response...

None that I can tell. It sure is solid! Spur and pinion wear look great and that's using steel pinion on steel spur...

steel on steel is probaly less of an issue on th lighter trucks i would imagine. Less pressure , less wear. Maybe a plastic spur solution isnt necessary?

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

i just bought the Ofna CR Buggy motor mount for my Ravager, its the same thing as the 9.5. its fits great. puts the motor on the other side though, but i dont mind it actually worked better like that.
