Talking My season opener race - 06.08.2005, 08:48 PM

hey guys,

i had the season opener at my local track last night. we had an awsome turnout with 9 Monster truck guys. After i got all setup, i took my truck for a test spin on the new track (layout designed by me). as soon as people started seeing it run, i had a swarm of people around me when i brought it off the track. almost everyone came over and looked at it and asked what the heck i did to it. it was insanly fast down the strait. i was flying by the .18 revos. i came in 2nd out of 9. Most guys had revos. the guy i lost to was running a sweet revo. i only lost by 5 seconds and we were battling the whole race. i was extremly happy with the way my truck handled. it stayed level over every jump and went around the turns like it was on rails. it was my first time racing since last season, and i just started to get used to it at the end of the main. i was amazed when i found out i only used about 1/2 of my batts in the 6 minute main. i think once i get my driving skills back up to par, i may come home with a win next week. the ext g-maxx was so much better than my race bomb. the track was really dry and dusty(no water this week). heres a few pics after the main. special thanks to mike for getting all the stuff to me in time.

That is sweet, man, wow 2nd place, im surprised, usually people that came back from racing come in 5th or 6th or those positions, it looks nice, how fast would you think it goes?

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

Sweet!

Sounds like you had fun. My son and I both have Maxx's but they're not race ready for our track, yet.

Unfortunately for our mains we need to run 30 minutes so getting just the right setup is important. It's either fast pit stops or large capacity batteries.

The EXT upgrade still looks good w/ the stock body. What kind of rear drive shaft you using? I've considered the EXT as an upgrade option just for better placement of the 18120. I think I've got it the way I like it w/ the stock g-maxx chassis.

its a UE ext electric driveshaft. the body fits good. heres a pic of my f-350 extended body. the ext makes the truck so much more stable. i get about 10 minutes of runtime on the track, and have 3 sets of packs. i have a trophy race coming up with a 30 minute main, i just may try to run it.

sorry bout the crappy pic

Excellent. I love the F350 body for the EXT chassis (nice color/graphic scheme, btw).

The other consideration I had for EXT is 8000mah LiPo's. I think they'll fit in my battery cups on the non-EXT g-maxx chassis...I think. Its very close and I won't know until I get my hands on 'em (www.thunderpower.com -> TP8000-3S4P).

After I collect some data w/ my Eagle Tree I should be able to determine if the 8000mah will give me the capacity (and the amperage) for the 30 minute main. If anything I only wanna change packs once.

So I basically have three reasons to go EXT, but if I don't absolutely need to I won't.

let me know how your TP8000 3S4P set up goes..

Tho I need a 5s or 6s but I might think about trying out a set of those for my G-Maxx to get longer run times and maybe shave off a few lbs.. hehe

Unfortunately the packs that I want (2 * 3s4p) won't trim the weight of the truck, each pack is 16.5 ounces 'bout the same as a 7/8 cell stick of GP3300/3700's...so I'm trimming everywhere I can.

I'll order them in a couple of weeks. But I need to record the current performance of my truck and calculate what I really need/want.

cya!
